Its so ironic because the storyline revolves around the fact that cobra kai was resurrected in order to defeat Kyler. Now Kyler is one of Cobra Kais toughest and craziest members with INSANE judo throws:

Terry looks menacing but it seems like he did time in prison because of his handcuff belt buckle.

Oh i don’t know him. Is it worth watching through season ? I got bored of it at the end season 1 or beginning of season 2.

I loved those two seasons, kind of hated the third. It felt like the tension and consequences they built up well ended up being very minor and the high school drama really takes over. It felt like there was outside pressure to change direction or something, might not be the case but it seemed like it to me at least. If you didn't like it through season 2, I don't think you'd enjoy it watching on.

There are lulls and the high school stuff sucks in seasons 2 and 3 but the non high school stuff is worth wading through the rest.

That's reading quite a bit into a belt buckle but it's possible. Maybe he crossed paths with Dutch in the slammer...

But Terry Silver looks like he means business. I like it.

That back and forth stuff between Daniel and Johnny was cornball shit though. I hope they keep that "Johnny says X, Daniel says the opposite right after" to a minimum. I don't want to see the same joke 30 times.

Ha, man Stingray belongs in the Next Karate Kid universe with Hilary Swank and the Alphas and the Miyagi Monks. That guy is straight up Family Matters Myrtle Urkel level sitcom stuff.

I'm almost more impressed with Kyler than anyone. He spent years in wrestling, which is a tough sport to go in to with an ego so he either started young or stuck through in school and became good enough to build an ego. Then he gets his ass kicked and is humble enough to take on a new sport he isn't good at yet so that he can improve himself. Very tough, especially for someone who has a niche they're comfortable in.

Not like he was bullying through sheer size or just being ruthless, he built his skill up. Was he dick? Absolutely. But a big theme of the show is that good and evil is about perspective and every teenager can be assholes at times.

I think the show's kind of given up on the initial concept of subverting the original movie, those interesting storylines have played out, and now we're at a stage where it's about nostalgia and the same basic dynamics of the original movie.

people like him exist in adult striking class. Some season of TUF you can sorta see it. They opened up the can of worms,. more adults joining the fight would actually up the stakes anyway.

I think unfortunately that half of the show going forward is going to be a Days of Our Lives level soap opera between the younger cast. Love triangles, friendships being broken and resuming, over and over again...there are no words for how boring I have found that after season one. No matter how many seasons this goes on and what happens between the characters, I don't and never will care whether Miguel ends up with Sam, whether Tory ends up with Johnny's kid, etc. Don't care.

They're doing interesting stuff with the older cast though, which makes it worth eating that high school shit sandwich to get there. The 1960s flashback stuff was pure gold and the Chozen stuff as well. I'll watch whatever crap it takes to get to Kreese in the 70s, but it's going to be a slog. Even the present day Daniel vs. Johnny stuff has gotten pretty stale. The first season between them was all good. Now it's a handful of good moments per season.

I'm willing to buy a guy like him, but everything about his storylines is like a sitcom character, whereas Hawk, Miguel etc. are more grounded and realistic. The super nerd high school characters are already pushing the bounds of realism too much for me and Stingray takes it even further.

I like the actor and it's not a bad idea for a character, but there are enormous gulfs in gravitas between the generations.

Kreese - dialed up to 100
    Chozen, Johnny, Daniel - 70
    Miguel, Kyler, Hawk - 70
Most of the other high schoolers - 40
Dimitri and other super nerds learning karate - 30
    Stingray - 10

The more it goes down the scale, the more it departs from the stuff in the original three Karate Kid movies that made me check out the series in the first place.

Miyagi, for example, has a gravitas level of 80 to 100 in the first three movies, depending. Then in The Next Karate Kid he was down to about 20, despite the movie opening with a WW2 memorial scene.

Kind of a shame he disappeared. But he kind of overly complicated the story if they kept him around. He came off to me as a goofy minor joke that was a hair away from directly looking at the camera and winking.

If he stayed, they have to get in to why a grown adult is able to literally beat the shit out of kids and not be in jail. He also has to interact with Kreese who would probably despise him for being a weak loser, break his knees in front of the other students and then bury him with words, though that would actually be a pretty awesome way to write him off the show as opposed to just disappearing like he did.

Either way, you probably aren't able to keep him on as comedic relief for long without it getting distracting.

I thought the writers dropped the ball with Kyler in the first season - he was poorly written and came off like they were trying too hard to "subvert expectations" with a one-dimensional Asian jock bully.

But the Kyler character comes into his own in Season 3. They gave him some good material and the actor delivers - comes off as a likeable meathead delinquent who still has some grounding in reality.

Also the actor Joe Seo is old AF to be playing a teenager. IMDb has his birthdate as 1998 but he's been credited in teenage roles since 2006. LOL In 2007 he played an "Asian Gang Member" when he was 9 years old according to IMDb.

    No mercy!

Dude he was the REASON cobra kai was resurrected!

Kyler was in episode 1 when Johnny saved Miguel from Kyler. Cobra kai re-opened in order to wage war on Kyler. Now Kyler is their top student.

Season 3 was great but it was all over the place. You had John Kreese flashback which was needed. But Daniel going to Okinawa and meeting Kumiko and Chozen created a shift from the current storyline which is teen drama.

Stingray is the happy go lucky version of Junie Lunatik Browning. Both are nuts and wild but Stingray is more lighthearted and less violent.

He still has money but from the looks of it, it seems like he got in to a scuffle. I feel like that was not the first time him and Kreese met in terms of reunion. I think their reunion was not shown in the trailer. Probably all happy and jovial but when Terry went to meet Daniel, Daniel must have gotten on his nerves which made Terry livid.

Kreese is smirking because now he knows that Terry is all in on this revenge as oppose to psychological revenge, it seems Terry wants to get physical.

I am super impressed but I wonder one thing, I wonder if Kyler is related to Master Kim Sung Yung. I mean the actor is Korean and I feel like they picked him because they saw that his character may have potential if the actor sold him well. Joe Seo did an amazing job as Kyler and now they might make it so that he is a relative of Master Kim who is a Tang Soo Do legend!

Also, Kylers dad is super strict, this might explain that he has some crazy good work ethic but because he is being bullied and overly pushed by his dad, he has anger issues that he takes out on other kids as oppose to Kyler being evil.

I talked about how Terry as a show of gratitude helped Master Kims son to migrate to America and his son had a son who ended up being Kyler.

Stingray is crazy and in a way he is a man child who is still in to the martial arts and having a fantasy of being a great fighter.

I can't really fault them for going that direction because there's really only so much you can do with what the show started with. The shows almost doomed to suck eventually because of the demand for more of it. It's also aimed at young people without the nostalgia, and that's the stories they tend to gravitate to.

Johnny to me is the foundation of the show, he's always fucking awesome and I want to see more. Which is especially impressive because he's a character defined by his inability to change, though that's also made for easier storytelling because every bit of growth we see in him is significant even when it's extremely trivial.

Daniel is the only one who comes close but he's not nearly as relatable or naturally charming, often he comes off as manipulative when he does show his charm. Showing the uglier side of Daniel is interesting, but isn't as consistently engaging as seeing Johnny grow while remaining true to himself and revealing a strong depth of character. I'm interested in seeing how they handle the dynamic they set up this season, but it's going to be tough to pull off in comparison to the first season that seemed effortless.

I want Master Kim Sun Yung stuff almost as much as you do, but I hope they don't shrink this universe down to a series of billion to one coincidences with everyone being related to everyone. Kyler as KSY's grandson, Tory as Kreese's granddaughter, etc.

They already got all of the coincidences I was willing to buy in order to initiate the first season with Daniel training Johnny's kid, Daniel's kid crashing into Johnny, etc.
