“I think Ronda has got power,” he said. “What Ronda doesn’t have, is fluidity, a technical speed. She doesn’t have a smooth coordination. She’s very jittery, she’s very mechanical when she punches, and she’s very wild and telegraphs very much.

“Her punching level is not at an expert level,” he said. “However, is that her coach’s fault? I would say no, it is not.”

/

“I know what you guys are going to tell me, ‘Ben Askren is a better striker than Ronda Rousey. Maia’s striking is better than Ronda Rousey’s. Why is Rousey’s striking is very stiff and mechanical?’ Is it because of his coach? I don’t think it is.

“Before you start burning your computers, hear me out. Take for instance, Ben Askren, great fighter. His coach, Duke Roufus, is an extremely competent striking coach. No one can debate that, and he has proven himself over and over again. Why isn’t Asrken’s striking like Anthony Pettis? Is it Duke Roufus’ fault? No it is not.

“The reason why a Ben Askren or a Ronda Rousey’s striking usually — not always — doesn’t hit that high level, is because they’ve spent so much time wiring their brain and their body and their nervous system to fight in one particular way. It’s opportunity cost. Every time you do one thing, you’re costing yourself in another.”

/

“I don’t believe he’s incompetent. I think he’s a legitimate striker. I’ve seen his fight videos, I’ve seen him standing up. He legitimately knows what he’s doing standing up. Is his stand up style good for Ronda? Is his approach to training stand up good for Ronda? I would say it’s not.”

“Ronda needs a better approach. The approach he’s using is not working for her, and it will never work for her. This high congested style of position. This still upper body style of positioning, her footwork, all these things will just get her in trouble and knocked out again.

“People know her weakness, and she has got to change her formula. She should’ve done this after the Holly Holm fight. Change formula, change tactics,” he continued.

“This is not a critique towards Ronda. I’m really opposed to kicking someone when they’re down. I think she is a great fighter. I think she can overcome this, and there is hope for her, but a new formula needs to be taken.

Thanks for the timestamp, you sadistic bastard

Edit: Thanks for the text and so on, kind sir. You are one of a kind.

Edmond has a lot of knowledge about striking, it's very obvious.

He contradicts himself in that short txt even. Thought more of Firas. After a number of years even a complete uncoordinated muppet of a human being would attain a higher technical degree of striking than Ronda has. At least with a semi-competent coach. She hasnt. So if its not his fault whos is it? It cannot be hers, she listens to him and repeats it. Yeah...I dont buy whats Firry is selling

without a doubt

the best breakdown of this fight came from michael page

Of course it's her fault. She isn't physically capable of being a good striker. Just like I'm not physically capable of being an f1 driver.

I for one will be happy when people finally tire of the What's the deal with Ronda? discussions and the Ronda threads trickle down to almost nothing.

Literally everyone Edmond has trained in MMA has a losing record while under him.

Not even mad at Edmond, he gets a paycheck because of her and it's really on Rousey to add other training methods/moonlight camps if she wants to. Not saying it worked for Pettis but he trained at both Roufus and Jackson's at the same time I believe. Neil Magny invited her to his gym, she could still work with Edmond and go train elsewhere for other things. She's just too stubborn and cocky to think she needs more improvement.

dont talk nonsense. So youre telling me shes unable to place her fist slightly different or shoulders in a different way. Feet more to the left or right?
Unless theres something very wrong with you everyone can be taught, to a varying degree. People with talent more. She hasnt even achieved soccer mom tae bo technique. And you cannot tell me its not Edmond's fault for not teaching her the positioning of the wrist/fist, shoulders with punching, feet placement. Is she not physically capable of that? Is she like a gold fish with 3sec memory?

You know for a brief moment this thread was the only Rousey thread on the first page of UFC discussion.

So close.

she could be trained by Freddy Roach and her boxing would never be good. She could get better, but never good. I could be trained daily to drive a race car, i would get better, but i would never qualify for an f1 race no matter how hard i tried.

Youre repeating what youve already said without thinking. Nobody expected her to be one of the best at striking. Not even close. It would be fine to be average, to have some defense and get to the clinch. She has nothing of that. And pretty much everyone can be average unless faced with some serious physical handicap.

We can't say exactly what goes on during their training sessions, but Edmond was giving her good advices during the fight.

If it was just a matter of coaching, after 5 years most would look great.

ronda would look awesome fighting against Bethe today. It's the level of competition. Holly looked unstoppable against ronda but she couldn't dominate Shevchenko. It's the competition.
