Coach Mark Henry says Frankie Edgar could potentially fight at 135 pounds

Discussion in 'UFC Discussion' started by JollyRants, Aug 5, 2016.

  1. [IMG][IMG]Frankie vs Cruz anyone ? Who wins and would you like it ?

"So, for me, I just really want to go the shortest cut to the next title, whether it be 135 or 145, whatever brings him the closest," added Henry. "That nine hours (with the new weigh-ins) didn't help either, that extra nine hours at 145. Aldo, man, he looked big out there. I've had other guys too like Eddie (Alvarez) and Edson (Barboza), in their fights I asked them how they felt with that extra nine hours recovering from the weight cut and they both said how they both felt a lot different and a lot stronger. So that's kind of tough too, when you give a guy nine extra hours on the weight cut, that Frankie has to kind of deal with now, too." He definitely could drop to 135, but I don't see him beating Cruz.

I actually think Edgar has a greater chance of succeeding at 155 than at 135. Sure, 155 is stacked, but the belt is always moving from one waist to another.

135 has its own master already.

Man, I'm a massive fan of both guys, but I gotta back Cruz here. Who knows what Frankie would look like at 135? He's already decently-sized for 145, despite his height.

If Frankie wins, he becomes a two-division Champion. If Cruz wins, he just beat a former Champion from two-weight classes above. Either guy is an incredible name to have a W next to on your record.

He should go back to 155 and steal the title from Eddie.

  12. lol hes gonna cut down to 135 and Cruz will still have the size advantage over him not to mention his body is already adjusted to the weight class. Frankie will just deplete himself for nothing. Cruz beats him.

One with a style that would give Frankie fits. He's used to being faster and not having to deal with that kind of footwork. Seeing what Jose did to him last would probably mean the Cruz fight would be even worse.

Indeed. Speed kills and dropping down another weight class the opponents only get faster.

He and Eddie are friends outside of the combat sports profession, and at times, training partners.. Frankie vs Dom, TJ, Assuncao, Dodson, Cody, rematch Faber, Wineland, etc etc.. Are all fights still fun and poss at 135 for Frankie. At 145 or 155, bigger named fights will be fewer in chance for him.

If Frankie were to fight at 135 and lose or win to Dom, assuming the fight happens in NY at the MSG, he can fight Dodson in the Phillipines, rematch Faber in Ca, fight TJ in Co, fight Assuncao in Brazil, fight Cody in Vegas, fight Manny in Boston, fight Wineland in Hawaii..
