Why would Israel care about genocides in China when it's not Jews on the receiving end.

Israel and the American Israel lobby used their power and influence in America to stop the US government recognizing the Armenian genocide. This was many years ago, and done as a favor for Turkey , who was an Israeli ally at the time.

If Uyghurs and Tibetans were Jews, the US would be taking extreme measures to not just boycott the games, but stop Chinese imports and impose withering sanctions. American media, pundits and government officials would be giving as much attention to the genocide as they did to 9-11. We would be hearing about the genocide.

I’m on the side of “at least it’s something”.

Idk if I would boycot the athletes. I’d rather us crush China in the Olympics vs stay home.

Is Mr Lijian suggesting that what the CCP is doing is justified because of what the US Gov't did in the 1800's?

Also, how can the CCP forget what happened to China by Japan in WWII? Seems like convenient amnesia

Correct... Israel has nothing to gain by the virtue signaling...

However, I'm glad the US is doing something, even it's just symbolic. Anything to bring additional attention on what's happening there...

Hopefully, the CCP will have to address this issue several times during the Olympics.

It's isn't virtue signalling, because Uyghur rights groups pushed for this, and Beijing is mad.

Governments use sports to legitimize their regimes and know that it brings positive P.R. When China held the 2008 Olympics, news was saying it was China's coming out party. The 2008 Olympics was a massive P.R. boost for the CCP. Muhammed Bin Salman is also using Sports to legitimize his rule.

Hypothetically: If the Winter Games were being held in Iran Israel would be boycotting and would push the US and Western governments to do the same. Israel is always pro active at getting everyone to remmember the Holocaust and foreign dignitaries are pictured lay wreaths at the Holocaust memorial.

China has an issue when atrocities are committed against them, as was the case with Imperial Japan, and gets mad when Japan is not sufficiently apologetic. But China also thinks it is wrong for others to be criticising it for committing genocide. This kind of blatant hypocrisy is very very common in the MiddleEast, South Asia and East Asia.
