CM Punk to train in Roufusport alongside Anthony Pettis and Ben Askren

With Punk stating that a top priority was finding an environment where people aren't out to intentionally 'hurt the pro-wrestler', it seems like he's comfortable enough with what he has seen in Roufusport to make the commitment.

Punk will be appearing in a Q&A on Friday, right before the UFC 182 weigh-ins, and more news on his training are expected to be made by then.

Good choice. In Roufusport they hurt you for showing up, not for being a pro wrestler.

Great choice for a guy who hasn't had any real fight experience.

No one at that gym would trot a hurt guy out to his eventual death!

I'm sure we'll hear about his James Toney-esque Gold Belt level grappling.

Around 12 months to get ready.

    Good choice in camp.

Joking aside, it's a great choice. Duke's camp has produced some really young UFC-caliber guys, which is a sign it can get a guy ready in limited time. I know Brooks has some casual BJJ experience, and assuming he's in good physical condition and is durable/stays injury-free, he can learn a lot in 8 - 16 months of training.

This whole notion that you have to train for ten years in the "new" UFC is bunk anyway. Fighting is still 90% natural talent, which is why guys like Jon Jones and Pettis can be champs so young, and why some guys can barely train and still be top-10 fighters.

I'm sure this whole thread will be sarcasm and bullshit, but its a really good choice. One of the top strikers in MMA, one of the top wrestlers in MMA, a really solid coach. Wise move, Punk.

With all of the shit that Askren talked about Punk, that outta be awkward!

And seriously people, years? We're talking about an elite-level pro athlete with years of previous martial arts experience. All that's lacking is the experience and full devotion of his time.

Seeing that he's at least a C-level athlete, it should take him 5-6 months. An A-level athlete would only need 2-3 months.

Relatively close to home for him (he could commute in if he wants) and a camp with great instructors. Seems like a good choice.

If he was an elite fighter you'd be worried that he didn't have anyone in his weight class to spar with who was also a great fighter, but that's not important when you're a newbie like Punk is.

Haha, how is a fake wrestler an athlete? Steroids and bad acting doesn't make you an athlete.
