These are typical Thai shinguards. They're wider than the calf on both sides, with a protrusion on the top that extends the protection beyond the top strap if you check with your knee. Multiple layers of padding help to disperse impacts, and even something that hits you from the side will still be partially caught by the guard.
These are padded in layers like MT shinguards, but have a neoprene sleeve on the back, a level top which stops below the kneecap, and offer slightly less protection to the side of the calf. You can use them while grappling, but they don't help so much for high checks or when their shin catches your shin off-center. They're fine to use for whatever, though.
These only have a half-inch of padding, but are lower-maintenance and are meant to fit under long pants for TMAs. Like the hybrid ones, the protection stops at the top of the sleeve and wraps sideways around the leg instead of sticking out to the sides. Unlike the hybrid ones, there's only one layer of one density of padding. They're fine to use with drills, during pad-work, or for light contact sparring that involves grappling, but hard sparring with these would be like showing up in 4oz MMA gloves (
or thick handwraps!) when everyone else was wearing 16oz boxing gloves. Doing so gives your shin slightly less protection, and your sparring partner a
lot less protection.
Compare the description and reviews for the different ones here, since they're all by the same manufacturer as your pictured example:
