Some people just have quirks. The thing is that if you flick the head you need to then get it straight again, not to mention it often creates a swing since most people will also move back when it happens. That and the head will pivot from the shoulders so the momentum created won't be significant, plus it hurts.

Sometimes it's just really hard to tell, if you look at a split frame of Tanir Sagir he looks like he flicks the head but in split frame he actually keeps it still. I reckon keep it simple for now and work on the basics (which themselves take forever anyways).
