Clean and Jerk, Power Cleans, Hang Cleans, and Snatches

power snatches are pretty damn hard too...

Write-in: Single arm snatches.

Snatches even more than hang cleans. Provided the weight is the same, they both go up just as fast but the snatch travels more distance.

and the rack on the snatch is much more taxing than the clean

love the clean and jerk....i hate doing snatches but will do them....snatches defintally are the more explosive movement cause its one motion as opposed to two in the clean and jerk...

Snatches are my favorite. Moving weight from the ground to overhead in one quick motion can't be beat.

As for which requires the most explosion, it's a matter of distance divided by time.
So out of the options given, power snatches require the most explosion. But a one arm snatch would have the weight moving an even greater distance.

how so?

Well, I haven't timed it, but less say the time it takes to perform a snatch, powersnatch, clean or power clean is roughly the same. Then the most explosive exercise would be the one in which the bar moves the farthest. In other words, the highest bar speed achieved, and the greatest acceleration.

On another note, I know I"ve seen somewhere some numbers measure output during various oly lifts in watts. I'll try to look it up, since it seems applicable.

I won't comment on which is the most explosive but, I love hang cleans.

snatch has the greatest speed, and distance and when doing a barbell snatch you can get more weight than a 1hand snatch...so technically the snatch is the most "powerful" move

Depends really. If you're moving a lot of weight and going really low into overhead squat position, it might not be a farther distance than a standing up rack position.

It's pretty obvious that a snatch with super low weight where you don't even need to get into overhead squat position has most distance traveled.

Snatch and Snatch...although I'm much better at cleans than snatches. I'm working on it!
