Ok so I wrestle and I learned the claw ride recently and can hit it fairly well. Basically for those who don't know it's when you go across body with the hand that's on the bottom guys arm in the referee 's position to the back of the neck and spiral with the other arm. It can keep a guy down however I'm wondering how you can score from this.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Theres only a few more weeks to the season to drill.

you could lift the near leg and try to turn but its low percentage

No, you can't score from this move alone, unless your opponent is horrible and falls over. But it is a great set up move.

This was definitely my go to move from the whistle when starting on top. I am unathletic (failed every sport except wrestling:icon_cry2) and very slow (probably had a lot to do with the aforementioned failure:icon_chee) so I could never pick the opponents far ankle or grab the near wrist before he created separation, but I could usually hit the claw ride (aka spiral ride). I loved, loved, loved riding legs and the claw ride is a perfect set up for sinking in legs. The basic defense to legs is to first catch the leg they are trying to put in. If you miss the leg and they get it sunk in, the second defense is to immediately mule kick to get your leg out. The claw ride prevents your opponent from catching the leg and mule kicking.

It's primarily used as a riding technique in college wrestling, where you can accumulate riding time for a point.

It's used for control. Now, if you go to that grip off the whistle, and he stands, you can pick up the near leg at the knee while maintaining the claw grip, lift him in the air, and turk the near leg on the way down. It's an effective way to turn him over and it's pretty impressive looking.

like ur_king said, it's a solid setup for puttin the boots in.
