Since the majority of GSP fans are taking this out of context and relating this to the comment Jones made after the Gus fight I thought I'd clarify it.

Hendricks did not say he went 70% for the fight.

What he actually said was that he was throwing punches with 70% of his power. Anyone who has boxed will know what Hendricks meant, it's like the Diaz brothers' pitter-patter shots. They aren't throwing those 100% power (probably nearer 50%) but I doubt anyone could try and argue they only fight at 50%.

He was just pacing himself for a 5 round fight so that he didn't gas himself out, anyone that throws 100% shots for an entire 5 round fight will look like a clean Overeem once the fight hits the 3 minute mark.

Inb4 'coolstorybro', ' Hendricks nuthugger', 'GSP hater' etc.

Yeah, even Dana knew what he meant but saw a good opportunity to go after him for some sound bites...

It was dumb of Johny to put it this way, but it would be stupider still for him to swing for the fences every punch from the first second in a 5-rounder.

I doubt many guys put 100% into their punches. Could leave them off balance if they miss and possibly break their hands if they hit the wrong spot very easily.

He was pacing himself, I find it weird people didn't interpret it that way.

70% was referring to power of hard shots - as you said.

He didn't want to gas

Yeah he didn't want to gas himself. All these months he bragged that all he had to do was touch him to put him away and now he claims because he couldn't put him away that he wasn't really trying to knock him out. Cool story.

But was it enough? Lulz Hendricks got served a piece of humble pie. Hopefully he learns from this, because he has a lot of talent...and a shitload of arrogance.

Yeah well apparently a lot of people are misinterpreting it.

Just looking in the threads lots of people clearly misunderstood it and there's a thread on the first page 'Johny promises to give 75% in the rematch' or something like that.

And there's number one.

Lol exactly. Everybody thinks GSP has a weak chin and he proved that he doesn't. Hendricks talked a big game and couldn't deliver. Him saying that he wasn't trying to knock GSP out is bullshit. He knows he tried.

It is pretty clear what he meant.
He even said he was pacing himself since it was his first 5 rounds fight.
people simply tries to find any way to fill in their agendas.

He was hyping the fight. That first swing and miss probably made him rethink his game plan because he gave up an easy TD. He started to throw with less behind it and he started to land.

It was a good strategy, his best chance to win.

It is pretty clear what he meant.

Basically this.

So you really believe Hendricks? You honestly believe that he didn't try to knock GSP out?

Well they often say the knockout comes when you aren't looking for it.

Of course he tried to but that wasn't his only goal, he was pacing himself for a 5 round fight. If he did an 'Old Vitor' he would have been subbed or UD'ed if he didn't get the KO in the first.

Hendricks landed on GSP clean, multiple times. But didn't possess the power in his hands necessary to finish Georges. How did he choose to rationalize/justify this...? By claiming he was only putting 70 percent into his punches.

I guess Johny dropped Kampmann and Fitch with his "hundred percenters".

Hendricks was trying to knock him out. Its the very definition of naive to actually believe his stupid nonsense that he wasn't trying to knock him out. He very clearly was.

Johnny coasted in the 5th round, plain and simple.

If you are truly in the fight for your life, you should be absolutely exhausted to wear you cannot stand up by the end of the 5th round. Instead he finished the fight not even breathing heavy. If he had gassed himself out trying to dominate gsp and FINISH in the 5th round, he would have possibly finished gsp and easily won that round. Instead he gassed and two bad judges gave the fight to GSP. He had his fate in his own hands, he is partially to blame, especially knowing the history of the NSAC judges...

Actually they may have been 70%'ers as well but they just landed perfectly, who knows.

If you don't think Johny has the power to finish Georges you're delusional. GSP's defence and great survival instinct was what saved him, not lack of power on Johny's part.

You could possibly argue that Johny didn't follow up with huge tenacity but he certainly has the power.

Let's not forget GSP's been finished by a LW before and Hendricks launches guys across the octagon when he ko's them and gave Fitch and Kampmann their first real ko's in the UFC.

Anyone can be knocked out and GSP isn't exactly known for having an iron chin but the guy who's known as the hardest puncher at WW doesn't have the 'power in his hands'? Sure.

This is what he means by people misinterpreting it. Hendricks didn't say he wasn't trying to knock him out, he meant he was pacing himself. Two different things and Hendricks just worded it poorly.
