Is this an extremely hypocritical stance? Would one assume that a true to the bible Christian supported prison would focus more on reform as we see in Scandinavian nations?

I find it quite ironic the most the push for revenge style prison systems focusing more on punishment as opposed to rehabilition come from supposed 'Christians'.

For those of you that are pro rehabilition at what point do you feel enough is enough and a crime is severe enough to warrant good Ol fashioned justice?

This is an issue I feel has a ton of grey in it and I have yet to come to a solid conclusion myself so I bequest you, the war room crazies the job of swaying my opinions.

The Gospel of Supply Side Jesus says that not putting criminals to death would only encourage more criminals to commit crime.

As a Christian, the way I see it is that if I'm not willing to pull the lever myself, then I shouldn't support it. As it happens, I'm not willing to decide when a man warrants death. I am strongly in favour of life sentences without parole for violent crimes, though.

the death penalty itself is kinda nonsensical

the state proves that killing is the ultimate, unforgivable crime by....killing you.

wait, what

The goverment murdering its citizens is wrong on many levels.

well, in the states we tend to follow retributive style of punishment, which is debatable whether something like the death penalty vs life in prison is more proportionate to first degree murder.

personally i don't like it. our system is inherently flawed (any system based on a trial by jury is bound to be) and killing even 1 innocent guy is pretty reprehensible to me. in addition, living the rest of your life in a cage knowing you'll never get out is, to me, a way worse punishment.

The death penalty is way underused in the USA. Anti- death penalty = pro child rapists and killers

Render unto Caesar what is Caesar's. In this case, a criminal's life is Caesar's. He violated the social contract. Off with his head.

Bullet to the head if you are without a doubt guilty of murder. You should not be allowed to breathe another breath if you take an innocent life... but yes, it is hypocritical for christians to support capital punishment and not support abortion but hey... after all they are christians and isn't that the definition of hypocrisy?

I dont have an issue with the death penalty as long as its guilty without an doubt at all. Also if they find a cheap way of doing it. It should not cost a lot of money to execute someone.

i feel you, but the death penalty is the only thing like that in Western socities. we don't chop off hands for stealing like they do in the ME, for example.

death penalty, which i really don't care about either way as it doesn't effect me much personally, is essentially the modern Hammurabi's Code. it's crazy when you think about it

chopping off hands is just being brutal to be brutal. the death penalty is more in line with trying to reach some form of harmony with victims.

i can see how some families of people who were brutally murdered to not want that person alive in the world. if it were me, i'd probably want the same thing, even though from a safe vantage point i can feel differently. whether that's a good thing or bad thing to appease that vengeance aspect is a bit above my paygrade in terms of me judging someone.

Some people are beyond rehabilitation and will harm others again. The death penalty is also more humane than life in prison. I'm for the death penalty in cases of murder and child sex abuse.

Knowing when you will die gives a bad person a reason to contemplate their life and whether or not they turn to Jesus Christ before they pass on.

I'm not a Christian, but I think we should kill more people.

So let me get this straight, murdering child for the sake of some pro choice self righteous vanity is fine but killing those who are responsible for the deaths of innocent people is hypocritical? I guess it's easy for atheists to sit on their soap box and judge others seeing how they have no 'moral compass' to be judged on themselves. Kinda of a bitch move if you ask me but to answer your answer, criminals who murder and destroy the lives of innocent get no tears from me, the faster they leave this planet the better off we are.
