Dude was essentially in a different movie. Ultra-intense typical Bale type work in a film that was jokey as any MCU film has ever been whenever he was offscreen.

I don’t know if he gave the best superhero performance ever- in fact, I think it’s arguable that he wasn’t even the best Batman. But he’s consistently great. One of the best actors of his generation for sure.

The only roles I felt he didn’t really get to shine in were, weirdly enough, in the same year: 2009. Terminator Salvation, which he really didn’t seem to have much to do. And Public Enemies where it was sort of by design- he was the inscrutable, by the book lawman in contrast to Depp’s nuanced, charismatic performance.

Otherwise, he’s pretty much great in everything. The Fighter, American Hustle, Hostiles, the Prestige, the big short, Vice, empire of the sun, Harsh Times, American Psycho, 3:10 to Yuma, etc.
