Chris Leben is a Winner

What do you think? He put on some great fights and was always a pleasure to watch.

Fun to watch, sure, but will likely be largely forgotten once he is gone.

When I think of Leben, the first word in my mind is not exactly "winner", either.

Why? Because of the Hall fight? He never quit any other fight that I am aware of and he was KO'ed in that fight.

he was both everything the sport needs and everything that it doesn't. His heart and chin were pretty much unmatched and made for exciting fights because of the sheer punishment he could withstand. Conversely Leben was one of those guys that had absolutely no skill other than using his durability to take guys out of their game. mma fighters have to be multi dimensional or be so good at one thing they can exist on only that, Rhonda and JDS come to mind. leben wasn't proficient in anything at all, just a huge heart and some pop in his shots.

I thought his fights with Martin and Bisping were great. People should go watch those again.

No kidding! People forget quickly. A couple years ago he was comeback fighter of the year. I was never a huge fan and often times cheered against him but he was always great to watch.

I love Leben's passion for the fight game but frankly now that I think objectively about his skills I think it's very telling how far the UFC and MMA as a sport has come considering that Chris was at one time on the cusp of being a #1 contender for the middleweight title.
