RJJ, interesting, but Roy can't teach natural dynamism.
RJJ was pretty much groomed to be a boxer by his dad from a young age, he probably understands enough to have people work on their flaws. From what I've heard from him he seems to be smart enough to realize that he can't just teach them his way of fighting.
That's resassuring, because as you say Roy's dad drilled him hard in boxing from a nipper.
Eubank would be better off trying to upgrade his wba interim belt by fighting Murata before going in against Charlo.
Eubank Jnr has been out at RJJ ranch for the whole of lockdown working away. Be go very interested to see what difference it has made as very different way of living compared to what he was used too
According to what RJJ said on the Joe Rogan podcast that's the plan, Murata-Charlo-Canelo. I guess this one could end up being a tune-up fight to get rid of ring rust.
He'd better not look past Murata.
This isn't some bs boxers do for publicity by "helping" some other boxer in their camp like Povetkin tweeted about helping chisora in his last fight, or like floyd tweeted about helping Wilder.
Roy Jones Jr has been a boxing trainer for years now, and some of his students are trainers already.
No he shouldn’t. Murata is tough and knows how to throw a punch. But if Eubank can’t get passed Murata he was never going to have any chance in hell against Canelo.
Absolutely. Murata is kind of robotic but Eubank Jr isn’t the smoothest boxer himself.
That fight could end up being an awesome slugfest.
Eubank looks to have it all, but I just can't understand why he lacks in power. His dad his hard af.
I think he lacks basic boxing skills rather than power.
Im friends with one of his old sparring partners who is a lhw, and he hits hard. He said Chris does hit hard, and his chin is as solid as his old mans. He’s Never seen him even slightly hurt even though he spars with bigger guys. Gas tank for days.
I’ll be interested to see what he looks like under a trainer that isn’t a yes man. I personally think this has been his biggest issue
Yeah, when he hits the button, they go down. The way he clubbed Yildirim like a baby seal said it all. He just has a hard time putting himself in the right position.
No head movement and bad footwork - hard to coach that into his game at this stage I suspect.
One thing I will say, he has grown on me over the years as an individual - putting aside the promotional BS, some of the stuff in his interviews is interesting and insightful.
The problem with Eubank Jr is one of pride. He won't listen, even to his own father, and he doesn't really respect his opponents, expecting to simply walk through them. I honestly don't believe changing his coach will make any difference at this stage.
Look at the respect his father had for Calzaghe here. When have we ever seen that from his son?
Eubank is all natural athleticism and no finesse. Maybe Jones can do something with him but a crisp counter puncher like Canelo is always going to beat him imo.
