anybody ever double up and do both?
Yes, and would even recommend it. Most good chiropractors will actually do some preemptive massage before your adjustment and some physical training and/or massage after. The place I go has an intern/chiro-in-training massage me for a few minutes before the doctor comes in and adjusts me, then I go do exercises. I would not recommend chiropractors that rush you in and out of the office within a few minutes, which I've also experienced.
If you've never been adjusted or have a particularly big/difficult movement you will often be sore, in which case a massage can aid recovery.
