Yes Egypt is building a new capital city near Cairo. That city built from scratch will be their new offical capital and China is funding it. The question that I have to the finance people here is why is china financing a failing nation? You have a population uneducated, the country has minimal oil/gas or any resources, it had tourism but pissed it away with their arab spring rape square festivities. the country cannot compete in anything science or tech related on the world market.
You have terrorism and you have egyptian within the nation and outside committing terrorism.
Why is china doing this?

China is doing all sorts of shitnin Africa.

I don't know why, Africa is shit.

In 50 years China will probably own 70% of Africa.

They are asserting their influence. As America withdraws from the world and is seen as being run by crazy people, China will fill in the void. I predict China will become more powerful in the next 4 years then they have in the last 40.

They now have the economic strength to assist other countries and buy their support. No one trusts America anymore. Our foreign policy was shit under Bush and Obama and now we elected an orange isolationist that no foreign leader even wants to talk to. Even our closest ally, the UK, had a debate as to if they should even invite Trump to their country on a state visit.

Soft power. This is how you build it.

China understands that Africa and South America are emerging continents with untapped human and natural resources. By financing growth on those continents, they're financing a power base for future world events.

People who understand how America build it's global dominance should be paying attention to this. America financed the reconstruction of Europe following WW2 and we've been dominating the world stage ever since because those countries owed us and it led us lead the international discussions. Additionally, by being a landing place for the bright minds of the world we were able to stay technologically ahead of competing nations innovatively.

China is following the same blueprint. Of course, there will always be people who write those parts of the world off as worthless because of stereotyped perceptions. Those same people won't see what China sees. This is an investment in world power and China is right to step into a gap that's presented itself.

Well said.

China is heading towards a period of internal turmoil, I assume they are trying to get their assets in order to minimize the blow when the revolution comes. Does China own the land the city is being built on? Sounds like a hefty rent check every month.

Yup. They're playing the long con.
Pretty brilliant, really. They've done something exceptional in geopolitics: actually learned from History.

The thing is, prior to the destruction of the war, Europe was a highly industrial part of the world. Africa never got there. This isn't stereotyped perceptions, it's reality.

If you look at the location of this new capitol city that Egypt is building, it's right next to the Suez canal. This is just another chess move by China to control all the major sea ports and routes of the world. It has nothing to do with helping Africa escape the 3rd world through foreign financed industrialism.
