Chicago police officer who fatally shot a 19-year-old college student and accidentally killed his neighbor filed a lawsuit against the teenager's estate Friday, arguing the student's actions prompted the shooting and caused the officer "extreme emotional trauma."

Officer Robert Rialmo seeks $50,000 for physical and emotional trauma, and $10 million in punitive damages, according to his attorney Joel Brodsky.

Officer Robert Rialmo says LeGrier assaulted him before any shots were fired, and claims that the accidental shooting death of 55-year-old neighbor Bettie Jones is LeGrier’s fault, not his.

I need glasses lol I read in the article yesterday, in Strychnine's post, that the neighbor who was caught in the line of fire was 59, when she is actually 55. Regardless, may she rest in peace, and God bless her family.

Quintonio came at Officer Rialmo with at baseball bat, after his own father, barricaded in his bedroom, called for police assistance in dealing with his violent son. Officer Rialmo responded with deadly force. This is the story, so far.

I'm all for body cams on cops. Why this isn't a nationwide standard, is beyond me. We know there's a problem with policing, especially in certain areas, like mine. Body cams will solve a lot of problems, but I also think in the long term, we need to build stronger communities, and that starts at home, with the family.
