Who here enjoys those cheesy B Movies? I'm talking sci-fi channel originals, the straight to DVD action flicks and the like?

It's one of my favorite time wasting hobbies. But I always wonder, if you are an actor in one of these things how the hell do you take the script seriously and act in one? Or do you just cash the check and be happy with that?

So let's hear it what are some of the best cheesy movies you've seen?

Not sure if considered a real B movie or more of a spoof of B movies, but I remember laughing my ass off at Amazon Women on the Moon

Love B movies, but I can't stand the modern self-aware, intentionally bad stuff. Sharknado? FML.

Check out the 70s/80s stuff.

Altered States
From Beyond
Toxic Avenger

Oh, there was a whole universe of movies inspired by Mad Max. Weird post-apocalyptic dystopian shit. All fun.

Also, if you're a TMA fan, The Adventures of Remo Williams was superb.

Edit: Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins.

He becomes a master of the ancient Korean art of Sinanju. Total "old master on the mountain" shot.

I started to type something, but this post said it better than I was going to.

MST3K had some fun with some real stinkers, more like D-movies... Space Mutiny, Soultaker, Werewolf...

Ice Pirates! Watch Ice Pirates.

Mad Max rip-offs may be my favorite genre in film. Alongside Conan rip-offs. The Italians just cranked them out like crazy. New Barbarians, Texas 2020 gladiators, Bronx Warriors, Exterminator from the year 2000, Endgame. A ton of great stuff.

That said, one of my all time favorite B-movie directors is Cirio Santiago, and he made like 7 Mad Max rip-offs all on his own, all of them a joy to watch. The Sisterhood, Equalizer 2000, Wheels of Fire (my personal fave), Stryker, Raiders of the Sun, Water Wars, Dune Warriors.

From Beyond

From Beyond is waaaay to good to be mentioned in the same breath as the other movies mentioned here. That movie is a superb example of Lovecraftian horror.

If the younger generations ever want to now what it was like aimlessly broswing through cable channels at four in the morning, then just watch Amazon Women on the Moon. :D

Soultaker

Hey man, that movie was well-made by MST3k standards:cool:

Space Mutiny

Hell, pretty much anything with the Man, The Myth, The Legend, Reb Brown could qualify. That man was B-movie gold. StrikeCommando, Robo War, Cage one and two, Mercenary Fighters, and my two personal favorites Yor and Howling 2 -- Stirba: Wherewolf Bitch!

Space Mutiny had Double Legend Power with Reb Brown AND Cameron Mitchell.

I felt so bad for Christopher Lee in Stirba. You know he just showed up on set and was like...what the fuck, man.

I'm not a movie wiz and I literally didn't recognize any of those movies. I will be searching tonight. Thank you.

When Lee was signed on for Gremlins 2, which was directed by the director of Howling 1 Joe Dante, Lee actually went up to the guy and apolagized for starring in Howling 2.:D

I listened to the audio commentary for Howling 2. There's a ton of funny stuff on there (KGB and army personel always being on their tail), though not much on Cristopher Lee unfortunately. One intresting tidbit though was that when they filmed the Church Scene, formal and old-fashioned Lee was actually getting skitish over profaning a church like that:D. Even though the local priest was fine with it since it meant he could get an Papal representative over there to Sanctify it.

Have you seen many Mad Max rip-offs?

If you want recommendations, I'd say The Blood of Heroes and She are my two favorite B-films of all time. Incidently both are what you'd call semi-rip-offs of Mad Max, being post-apocalyptic but sharing very little in common plotwise (She is almost more like a Conan rip-off). The Blood of Heroes stars Ruther Hauer as a player in a brutal blood sport game. Genuinely, unironically one of the best sports movies I've ever seen in my life -- and it all takes place in the Wasteland!

The ones I saw were when I was a wee lad in the 80s. Can't even remember the names.

Conan rip-offs are awesome. Krull was the one that stands out to me. Was there one called "Sword and the Sorcerer?" Three blades sword or something.

I almost suspect that I've managed to track down every single Conan rip-off that has ever been created. My obsession runs that deep. Though there is a Turkish Conan movie called "Altar" which I haven't been able to find any subtitles for (Turkish sherbros plz help me out with thiz). Honestly, I think Sword and the Sorcerer is one of the worst ones out there, Albert Pyun just manages to make things disintresting somehow. Krull is really fun though, but technically it isn't a B-movie since it had an almost 50 milion dollars budget.

In that genre, I'd say Conquest, Yor, Amazons, Warrior and the Sorceres (another Yojimbo-template movie) along with the two first Ator movies are the most watchable (all surpassed by the afromentioned She if that's to be counted).

Here's a good list of them.

This. Jack Frost aside for intentionally shitty. That movie was hilarious

Silent night Deadly night 2 is still the king of horrid for acting. So bad it is funny as hell. The Garbage day scene never gets old to me. I laugh everytime.

Lifeforce has to rank up there.

Deep Star Six

Oh, and Blood Beach

It's funny as soon as I read the title I thought of the sci-fi originals they are always releasing. I actually like those Bmovies better then most channels.

Lifeforce

Matilda May nude in every scene, what's not to love?:D But honestly... she probably gave the best performance despite all that. That movie is just packed with dull people giving lenghty exposition, which really drags it down. And it's not helped that the script contains such a corny stuff while simultaniously trying to be grim and serious and all that. Matilda May and the awesome special effects really saved it. That scene where she is covered in blood is just cool as fuck -- definitively a fave for sure.
