Hi guys, if you guys missed out on the combatsports gi sale, i've found some gi's for cheap. Oh and i'm not affiliated with the company that i found it at. I hate shills, and here's a thread where i posted and asked about a "cheap" gi
.

Oh and here's my standard disclaimer *I AM NOT AFFILIATED WITH JUDO-BJJ-DVD.COM*
Hi all, as your resident cheapo, I was surfing around on some sites and found some pretty sweet gi's on sale for us judoka. It's our chance to support the small guy in business. At www.judo-bjj-dvd.com I saw 2 gi's for sale: Toraki Bronze in WHITE (size 3 only - but size 4's don't wash the gi in hot water and size 4's will be able to wear it) and the famous Adidas Champion gi (I got one, and the thing is stiffer than.......... uh... i'll leave it up to your imagination).
I had a few questions about the gi's and I decided to email John. In addition to a prompt reply, John answered all my questions in depth. Service is top notch with John Turner, and as a contributing member of the forum and as someone who puts in positive plugs for his competitors, John is a class act in the judo community in my opinion.
Since there's little that's been said on this forum and on Toraki's site about the now discontinued Toraki Bronze gi, John answered some questions for me.
Here's what he said:
"The Toraki Bronze IS a double weave (NOT a single). It is, however, relatively lightweight compared to some gis I own. It also comes with a Toraki white belt. The gi that replaced this and the Silver is the new Premium. So yes, it is lightweight, but is still a very durable dble weave. The collar is very stiff for a lightweight double. I am actually very impressed with the collar considering the price."
So having fought against someone with an Adidas Elite and Adidas Contest, i'd say that it's thicker than the contest, but not as thick as the Elite.
The Adidas champion, he's got in size 2, 3 and 4 in both WHITE & BLUE. This gi is an absolute pain in the ass to grip, and the collar is a brick, and the gi material itself is ultra stiff. The gi is heavy and it's reinforced at all the vital areas. For competition purposes, i'd definately recommend this gi. Apparently it was designed by Howard Liu of HCK. I do believe that the Adidas Champion gi's that John has are the SEK versions of the Champion; in other words, old stock of the Adidas Champion, whereas the newer Adidas gis are made by Double D enterprises. Whatever the case is, it's an excellent gi that will last for a really long time. Did i mention that my Adidas Champion gi can stand on its own? It's a nice gi, especially for the price John's asking.
John's selling the Toraki for $40 (yes, 40) SHIPPED to the US (the Adidas contest at combatsports was $30, but it's not as good as the Toraki and there was a shipping cost associated with it, whereas the John's prices include shipping) So $40 SHIPPED for a double weave gi of any sort is a deal no matter how you slice it.
As for the Champion, it's listed at $90 SHIPPED. It's the same price as the sale at combatsports, but as stated earlier, there were shipping charges applied to any purhcases at combatsports.
Oh and prices on DVD's and everything else on the site is cheap again, the Swain set is down to $45, which is pretty darn good in terms of pricing.
*cliff notes: Cheap Gis. $40 for Toraki Bronze and Adidas Champion for $90. Prices INCLUDE shipping.
I know that this is sherdog, and most of you guys train in BJJ, but hell, Toraki makes a really good gi, and is well respected in the judo community. And as for the Adidas Champion, it's really damn good, and the pants are insanely comfortable (solid as well) I wish i found out about this BEFORE christmas
