    Deadlift max test

    Double overhand grip
    135x5
    185x5
    225x3
    275x2
    315x1

mixed grip + "chalk" (no chalk today, used my son's baby powder...worked well surprisingly)
    365x1

I was going to stop there but it went so easily I felt a pang of greed.

385xF -- got bar to knee height and had nothing left. I feel that if I had skipped 365 I would have easily hit a 20lbs PR. Despite this I dropped 10 lbs and attempted:

375xF -- this did not move. Fighting to pull the 385 was too taxing and I was absolutely spent.

I am happy that I so easily pulled my 1rm. Next time I attempt a new PR I will get it and I will not waste energy by pulling any former maxes as I did today.

My schedule is off right now as I was supposed to pull Friday and Squat tomorrow. Obviously that would be quite silly after today. I'll push squats back to Tuesday. It's sorely needed deload week coming up.

First workout today since last entry. I found out last week that I would be getting the ax from my job, lifting took a back seat. I also moved on Thursday and haven't had the opportunity lift, then there's the terrible pain my knee has been enduring since Sunday. Suffice to say I've seen better days.

My lady bought me some Rogue weightlifting shoes. I was elated to put them on and put them to the test.

    September 8

    Bench Press

    Warm-up
    45x10
    95x5

    Work sets
    125x5
    145x5
    165x6

My hamstring cramped up quite badly during my last work set, Charlie Horse FTL. I was going to go for 10 but I was very lucky to get the 6 and not drop the weight.

I was hesitant to Squat on my poor knee, but the prospect of using my new shoes was overwhelming.

    45x5
    135x5
    200x5
    230x5
    265x3

Stopped at 3. Didn't want to indulge any further at the risk of more time away from the iron.

While at the gym, I was granted the pleasure of listening to the PTs guiding their trainees. Normally I would be oblivious to their meanderings but I forgot the tunes so I was forced to eavesdrop.

"Squat straight down, bend your knees, stop...don't go below parallel." If you insist on advising a trainee...please...know your shit. That is all. I vow to remember to take music with me, someone may get hurt.

Don't make me angry. You wouldn't like me when I'm angry.

Since my schedule has been so far off I've decided to abandon this week of 5-3-1. When my schedule gets back to normal I'll start over, last week was the start of a new cycle anyway.

    Deadlift

    135x5
    185x5
    225x3
    275x2
    315x1

    +chalk and mixed grip
    385x1 (+20 lbs PR)

It was more difficult than I would have liked, but I got it up. 405 will go up before years end.

    BOR

    135x5x3

    Easy.

Rack Pulls + Static Holds (8 seconds)

    315x5x2

Lock out is a weakness, trying to address this issue.

    OHP

    45x10
    95x5
    115x1
    135x1(push press)

I had my dragon boat race yesterday. Lots of sitting around between heats. 4+ hours of sitting. It was for a good cause, it's put on by Cancer Care Society (which is also the team that I am on). I blew my wad in the first half of the race and was on fumes for the second half. I have no idea what the time was, the first race was 2:04 which beats last years time of 2:11.

I'll get the official time today and have the final heat as well.

Final day of the Dragon boat races. We slayed the other teams in our heat, it wasn't even close. My form felt good, I wasn't experiencing any DOMs from the work + race yesterday. I didn't get the official time but I feel confident that yesterdays 2:04 was thoroughly ravaged.

After our race, our team docked and went out with 5 boats of cancer survivors. There was a man on the PA saying something about a former steers-person who had passed...I couldn't quite make it out though. All the boats slowly rowed to the docks each member throwing a flower in memory of those who have passed from cancer. It was a very somber and humbling experience.

Enough of this though, back to the iron.

Knee felt ok. There was little to no discomfort during any of the sets. Just days ago I couldn't even do BW, my left Quad tendon hurt like hell. RICE method ftw it seems. I can't weight to put weight on the bar, but I'd really rather not rush back into it.

    Dips
    BWx5

My increase in BW has clearly affected these numbers. When I was >200 lbs 10+ reps was the norm.

405...you will be mine soon. It came off of the ground briefly, but alas it wasn't meant to be. Maybe if I get some consistency at the gym...should have expected it with my lack of lifting of late.

May be changing gyms in the coming future, one a bit closer to home.

I was very late leaving or the gym today so my rest times were none existent and I did not reach any of the work sets for bench. I wanted 4 singles for squat, 3 will do, I have not squated in quite some time. For bench I wanted to do 4 singles at 205 but I had to leave for work. Friday I will leave earlier.

There's a PL comp upcoming in November...I have been flirting with the idea of competing. We shall see.

On the first set first rep I pulled so hard that the bar hit my sternum and knocked the wind out of me. Took a deep breath and continued the set. I've never really done more than 5 rep sets for BOR so I had no clue what weight to start at. Could have gone heavier, didn't feel like it though.

Saw two guys who were there the same amount of time as me. They did shrugs the whole time. Their traps were ginormously hugantice, the same could not be said for the rest of their bodies (not including their huge gunz...probably from teh curlz). Typical perception of what a male body should look like is very disproportionate and plain weird looking.

Thanks Modena. I'm currently trying to make weight. I'd like to compete at the 100kg limit rather than the 110kg limit. Progress is slow, I like food and don't like conditioning.

The guy across from me used excessive layback to pull, he also looked like he was going to kill everyone in the building...scuzzy downtown gyms FTL.

The pain is from last squat workout + new job (flooring contractor -- hard on back). It's a very tight muscle, been getting my girl to massage me almost everyday, it's looser than it was but still tight.

I used to do a lot of conditioning, I was about 185 or so 10 months ago. LSD and not eating a caloric surplus. I would lift MWF and cardio TTSat. I was also really weak though. Now I'm anywhere from 235-245 on a given day and am much superior to my former self in regards to the big 4.

It is hell trying to find a middle ground so I can be lighter and still increase strength.

How are you felling? Still sickly? You'll smash some PRs when you're recouped.
