This is one of the funniest narratives I’ve ever heard in UFC fan history lol.

Why have we never heard this about other fighters?

We have?

A lot.
It's rather typical thing to say. People get butthurt about it all the time in here if you dont say "islam beat me at my best,I fuckin suck, and he's great. You all got your moneys worth. Im a big bitch, He made me his bitch"

No lie I would love it if a fighter did that <Lmaoo>. Reverse heel. Uno reverse fighter ego .

Alot of guys basically do something similar to appease and cater to the fans fragile feelings. Fuck that!

I think it’s silly excuses. Charles was fine, his normal guns blazing strategy just isn’t a good one against a fighter like Islam. It works against guys willing to brawl and don’t want to engage with him on the mat. But Islam has a very different skillset and approach than Chandler, Poirier, or Gaethje.

Charles will need to change tactics and fight patiently to win the rematch, will be interesting to see if he can do so.

I don't think there's many fighters self criticizing their losses to appease fragile fans. Just saying it would be funny if a fighter literary said "I suck he owned me" after a fight <Lmaoo> .

Always depends on the guy or girl though , some just have to make "excuses" and refuse to acknowledge a loss to stay confident, others can be more open/honest. I think most fighters fall into the former .

Oliviera gets dropped in every other fight, at one point it was gonna catch up with him. I don't think that's a sign that he "wasn't himself". You can come into a fight in the best shape of your life, but if you allow yourself to get partially separated from consciousness all bets are off.

At least Charlie didn’t claim he was drinking wine because he couldn’t sleep and ended up consuming 3 bottles by accident…

Every now and again I have an off day. Not surprising that it happens to fighters too

1. The "bad night" explanation is used all the time. And it actually has credibility. Everyone has bad nights at the office, fighters included. But the result is the result.

2. Islam-Oliveira doesn't seem like a "bad night" situation. I was rooting for Charles, but that fight played out exactly how I expected. Islam is a terrible matchup for him. Charles' striking is almost entirely predicated on forward pressure and clinch work, which plays perfectly into Islam's grappling game. And Islam's top game is better MUCH than Charles' bottom game. Could Charles hurt Islam on the feet? Sure. Could Charles catch a submission during a scramble? Sure. But the most likely scenario is Charles getting crushed (and finished) from bottom position.
