I enjoyed all the different characters he played in the movies. Rest in peace Mr. Durning.
Seemed like he either played:
1. the fat crooked local sheriff
2. The fat useless local sheriff
3. The fat former local sheriff
no idea who he is, but rip
Now he's the fat dead sheriff
Gotta add to that resume.
read through his roles on IMDB and finally found one i recognized with pappy o'daniel.
he was a really good actor. and for those in a nostalgic mood, he played the bad guy in the muppet movie- the guy who was trying to get kermit to be his frog's leg restaurant spokesperson. lol he was pretty damn funny in it.
i remember him from other movies like dick tracy and tootsie and also from everybody loves raymond series where he played their parish priest.
Damn, he was one of my favorites.
P4P best sheriff.
Never forget Hudsucker.
man, he was in a lot of stuff. him and klugman. rip~
I can only place him in Rescue Me, but I loved his character.
Francis Griffin, Doc Hopper, Father Hubley, and, of course, Postmaster Otis P. Hazelrigg - you'll be missed.
He was awesome
RIP big fella.
Little Know Fact:
Charles Durning was the casting director's and producer's original choice to play Bobby in Deliverance, but he saw page 34 of the script and said, "No fucking way!"
So they offered the part to their second choice, Ned Beatty. Ned said, "Great script, guys. I'd love to do the movie, but my copy is missing page 34."
They said, "Don't worry, Ned, baby! Nothing happens on page 34!"
Denis Learys dad on rescue me.
oh already posted.
He's in a ton of movies. RIP
