I was planning on starting to alternate back squats and front squats for 6 weeks each. Would the change in routine compliment my back squats allowing me to back squat more or, should I just stick to doing front squats as an assistance exercise?

You need to give more detail about your routine.

Well I am finishing up the six week russian squat routine here
Russian Squat Program Generator

will be maxing on tuesday and am expected to get about 410-420. I have never done front squats before was just wondering if changing it up would help.

First, you can do a different form of squat, (or even a different leg exercise, like lunges) such as front squats, on the light days of the Russian Squat routine, although it's suggested that you do it as written first.

Second, when talking to some of the best squatters I know, (guys squatting +3x Bw) using variants of squats strongly suggested/advised. In particular high bar squats or front squats. Also, using variations helps limit fatigue, which could be an issue with a routine like the Russian Squat Routine.

You can find more details on the routine here:
