Like any other sport that evolves, MMA is in some need of changes. Basketball, for example, instituted the shot clock, added the 3pt line, and elimanted hand-checking to boost scoring. MMA could a use a little more excitement as well. After giving a lot of thought to it, here's what I came up with:

-Eliminate elbows on the ground. All it really does is cause bad cuts and nobody wants to see a good fight stopped on a cut. This means the fighter on top would have to throw punches instead of short elbows thus allowing the fighter on the bottom to attempt more subs. And who doesnt like a good sub finish.

-Knees and kicks to grounded opponents (with a catch). On the feet, as long as a fighter doesnt have a knee or both on the ground, he cant be kicked or kneed. If his/her feet are planted, its fair game. No hand on the ground rule for protection. Now, if both fighters are on the ground, knees and kicks are allowed. Meaning a guy on his back can throw an upkick and a guy in a front face lock can be kneed.

PS: Not for the purposes of entertainment, but front kicks to the knee should be banned outta safety for fighters. While it may not cause an injury at the time of the fight, it could weaken it to the point where a fighter can injure later, like during a camp.

REMOVE the 265 lbs weight limit.

Cain is a great fighter but a 6 feet tall chubby 240 pounder shouldn't be the World Heavyweight champion.

Better yet just put them in separate rooms and have them play xbox instead of actually getting in the ring...That would eliminate cuts , lowblows, eyepokes, lay and pray and everything else....:eek::eek::eek::eek:

get rid of rounds. so often we've seen a fighter in a dominant position about to finish his opponent with some ground and pound and then the bell rings. his opponent is given a minute to rest/recuperate and then given the added bonus of starting the next round on their feet.

Getting rid of rounds may make for more realistic fights, but rounds add to the excitement more than they detract.

Change grounded fighters, touching the ground shouldn't make you a downed fighter. Score TDD and getting back up once taken down. Harsher penalties for eye pokes, give warnings just for having your fingers out near the face, an eye poke should be points on the first instance. Use video evidence between rounds if the ref missed it.

Mike Tyson was 5'10, a 6'1 guy like Cain could easily be the toughest guy on the planet.

Yes, because, in spite of his second-to-none cardio and insane amount of skill and dominance, he should not be champion because he doesn't have a six pack.

    Sherdog logic right here, Bro.

Who would beat Cain if they removed the weight limit?

A fighter that is unknown right now, much bigger than Brown Pride.

Due to a lack of evolution heavyweight is the only weight class where the limit is not exploited.

Prime Tyson wouldn't beat this guy.

let's just start with a better policy/process for making any changes.

the 4 major sports make changes annually. MMA doesn't. that's because the AC's control the rules for MMA, whereas the owners control the rules for the 4 major sports.

the AC's did a great job streamlining the rules into the Unified Rules in 2006. but that was almost a decade ago.

we need a way to update rules more often than that.

Instead of 5, 5 min rounds for main events do 3, 8 minute 20 second rounds.

    - Make event design's looks different, even slightly.
    - Change the air-horn to an actual bell.
    - Improved glove design

....There we go. Simple and nothing too inflammatory in there.

    Oh, and YAMMA pits.
