Who do you guys got to go onto the group stage?

My picks in bold.

Ludogorets - Plzeň
Celtic - H. Beer-Sheva
København - APOEL
Dundalk - Legia
Dinamo Zagreb - Salzburg
Steaua - Manchester City
FC Porto - AS Roma
Ajax - FC Rostov

Thanks for this thread, I feared nobody here gave a f---! :p

I think Rostov is the dark horse this season and will win against Ajax for sure. Rostov was the underdog against Anderlecht as well but they beat the odds. They will win again because coach Kurban Berdyev is a master strategist, mark my word.

Want proof? How about this: he beat Pep Guardiola's Barcelona in 2009 at Camp Nou!

Fluke? The rematch was a draw, so I don't think so. He drew with Barcelona again the following year.

In the 2012-13 Europa League Kurban's Rubin again shocked the world:
  • Rubin beat Inter Milan 3-0 (!!) and won all group games, taking 1st place.
  • In round of 32 they beat the defending Europa League champions Atletico Madrid (led by Diego Simeone).
  • In round of 16 they beat another Spanish team Levante 2-0.
  • Only in the quarterfinals were they stopped by Chelsea, despite winning the 2nd leg. Chelsea eventually took the cup.
Kurban's current team Rostov almost pulled a Leicester story in Russia. Before he joined as head coach in 2015 the team was last in the league table with only 11 points. Kurban saved Rostov from relegation and in 2016 they took silver, lagging only two points behind champions CSKA!

Now, Rostov in the Champions League for the 1st time in its history and is ready to make some noise! War Kurban! :)

Looks like the joke's on me since he's leaving the club. :p WAH WAH WAH!

If you still want some more background on both couch and club tho:

He's moving to Spartak Moscow, intending to return them to forgotten glory.
Shame they did not qualify for Europa League this year.
This is crazy but Kurban just signed a consulting contract with Rostov for the Ajax game. Rostov is back in business!

1-1 away. Good start. Rematch 24.08.2016

Rostov did get outplayed badly tough, but 1-1 gives them good perspective for the home match.

Anderlecht was a good win, but the last time Anderlecht played Ajax they lost quite badly too. I'm curious to see the match tomorrow though. If Ajax plays like they did at home Rostov will have a difficult night. Then again, the only thing they have to do is keep the 0.

Rostov is notorious for their defensive play.
Last season they only conceded 20 goals - the least in the league and 5 less than the champ:

I can easily see this ending in 0-0 and Rostov advancing on away goals. Worst case 1-1 and overtime.

Ajax only conceded 21 goals as well, and scored 81. So their national stats are pretty good as well. Curious to see the match though. 0-0 could surely happen, but Ajax tends to score in almost every match they play.

Seems like nobody gives a damn.

We do, however we already have dedicated threads for these.

We discuss La Liga, Spanish clubs in CL and EL and the Spanish NT here: http://forums.sherdog.com/threads/la-liga-discussion-desde-el-camp-nou-hasta-el-ipurua.3132529

And all other football is generally discussed here: http://forums.sherdog.com/threads/p...uys-dont-win-at-the-end-of-this-story.3325725

Even though it says Premier League thread it's more of a general football discussion thread.
