Chael Sonnen Controversy

In the Silva fight he did have great topcontrol but I dont think he had bad subdefense. Silva said in a interview efter the fight that he had worked the sub for a while (a couple of rounds atleast) sneaking his legs up but not doing anything so Sonnen got comfortable with the legs in the dangerzone, and WHACK got cought. Cant find the interview right now...

The myth of Chael's terrible sub defense stems from him getting submitted only by high level, accomplished BJJ blackbelts.......and Forrest Griffin and Trevor Prangly a decade ago. He's also faced plenty of high level accomplished BJJ blackbelts and dominated them without getting subbed, but no one mentions them.

Sonnen improved his sub defense. Before he would be recklessly throw punches against his opponents. Now he is more calm when throwing punches and is looking to advance position and go for subs.

He was notorious for bad submission defense but now his defense is really good.

But you need a rubber neck to avoid the chokes of Jones. I see Sonnen losing via submission after getting hellbowed. No shame in getting subbed by jones

"Really" good is pushing it bro. But your avatar says it all.

Who was the last person to sub Sonnen? Oh that's right, Anderson Silva, in the 5th round of a fight where he was exhausted. He hasnt been in danger of subs since then and his BJJ (at least offensively) has looked much improved. He got full mount on Anderson Silva, who has a very very good guard.

The least you can say is that we haven't seen him in danger of subs so there isnt a way for us to know how good his sub defense is....but then again, someone who has good sub defense won't get in danger in the 1st place.

Getting an event canceled because you won't fight a guy from a lower weight division is.

Wow. this shit again?

Chael is getting the shot, because they believe he is the magical cure for TUF, and he can "sell a fight"

Well it's easy to put it that way when you completely disregard the fact that he hasn't faced a great BJJ guy since then. And don't say the second Andy fight because he got TKO'd before the sub opportunity presented itself.

I wasnt going to say the 2nd fight....you cant say the sub opportunity would have presented itself...

So you're saying you want a really good BJJ artist to fight Sonnen so that he can submit Sonnen to prove his sub defense is not really good? That doesn't make sense.

Hendo got subbed by Silva....he must have terrible submission defense too. And in only 2 rounds.... (Sorry for the sarcasm)
