Probably the biggest celebrity I have ever met was Johnny Depp. This was many years ago when he first became famous for being on 21 Jump Street. The show was sometimes filmed at my high school. I went to my school on a weekend to watch the filming and was very impressed that he bothered to spend a few minutes chatting with me. He was very honest about his being uncomfortable with his new found celebrity status. He seemed very genuine that he wanted his fame to come from his talent and not his looks. I was shocked that he spoke so candidly to me. Since then he has been my favourite actor. And to be honest, even if I had never met him, he probably still would be. I generally don't give a poop about any celebrities but I almost always enjoy his films. He's a great actor. So have any of you had great experiences meeting celebrities?
I live in Las Vegas, so I've met more than my fair share of celebs. The nicest celebrity I've ever met is Chuck Norris. You can talk to him like he's a regular guy. We once talked about guns for a few hours, he paid for lunch and everything. The most down to earth celebrity I've ever met and I've met plenty. Also, I met the Iron Shiekh. Yes, he is as crazy in real life as he was in the WWF
Super nice: Edward Norton, Anderson Silva, Lucy Liu, Nick Cave, Michael Stipe, Neil Gaiman, Thom Yorke, 'Beecher', the 'O'Reilly brothers', and Tom Fontana from Oz Douche: Sam Rockwell, 'Poet' from Oz
I hate to admit how jealous I am that you met Thom Yorke. Many many years ago, probably in 92, I was in L.A. and my limo driver was telling me that this hot new band called "Radiohead" was playing at a club. He highly recommended that I see them. To this day, it makes me absolutely sick that I didn't listen to him.
The biggest piece of shit I've ever met is Micheal Jordan on two occasions. I used to work at the MGM theme park and this piece of shit didn't tip a penny. He was my very first customer out of the thousands that didn't tip. Not only that, he was rude the whole time. When he needed a refill, he didn't even say a word or even look my way, he just did that "come here" thing with his finger.
I've never met him but I've always heard he's a horrible person in real life. There was a golf club recently that even kicked him out cause him and his buddies were such total assholes on the course. And when you consider he could get away with a lot more than most other people for him to get kicked out he must of have been horrible. Truth be told his "competitive spirit" that made him such a good player is probably the same reason he's a complete jerk-off in real life
Matt Hughes was cool. Dan Severn was super cool. I met him at a fight and he talked with me for probably 15 minutes about the early days. He seemed appreciative that someone knew him and knew about early MMA. Met Mike Ditka once. He was busy at the time so he wasn't particularly talkative.
The only celebrity I've met was Will and his wife Jada Pinkett Smith. In the early 2000's Jada was into metal music and her band got a slot on Ozzfest's second stage. After they played both her and Will were just chilling with everybody. Both of them were super nice people. I've met a bunch of fighters. All of them through Renzo Gracie and his BJJ school. Met Matt Serra (who was hilarious) Ricardo Almeida, Frankie Edgar, Dante Rivera. Members of the Gracie family I've met were Renzo, Rolles, Igor, Gregor, Roger, and Kyra. They are all good people. I see Renzo and Rolles regularly because they live in a neighboring town.
Not really a celebrity but I met Ben Askren. He was super cool and very funny. Has a lot of knowledge on wrestling too.
I saw Johnny Damon at cedar point with his family. I pointed him out to my friend and he noticed we were looking at him and he gave us a nod and smile but we didnt bother him since it looked like a family day.
I saw Michael Jordan at a hotel as a kid once. My dad was sure it was him too. Same face, little hitler stache, and gold earring. Kinda glad I never talked to him now that I always hear about how big of a dick he was. Probably would've broke my 6 year old heart. Oh and I forgot to mention, I hung out with Kenny Rogers once. He was my ex girlfriend's uncle. She had never told me before. I show up to a pool party at her parent's house and there he is just casually chilling. It was kinda surreal at first lol. Very kind man though.
Sat next to William Shatner on a plane once. He was funny, really self deprecating. Met David Carradine, he was weird, and reeked of MJ smoke. Tons of fighters, they're almost always very cool. I've noticed that the most douchey fighters tend to be low level undercard guys fighting on big shows for the first time. I had a chance to meet Schwarzenegger once, but I turned it down. I'd rather live with my fandom than meet him and find out he's an asshole.
Met Stephen King twice in college up at UMaine/Orono. Cool as shit. Had the obligatory pic taken in front of his house (this is 20+ yrs ago, mind you, don't know what ever became of that pic). Did a year at FCI Fairton, met convicted spy Robert Lipka (not a celeb per se but whatev) and Skinny Joey Merlino. Both were really cool. Worked for a while at a limo/airport shuttle company, thru that I ended up driving/meeting Olivia Newton John and Karl Rove. One of my colleague's daughters was 2011 Ms Delaware too.
Glad to know Johnny Depp is a cool dude, he seems like he would be. Personally my favorite actor/entertainer as well. I was a fan the moment I saw the movie Ed Wood. I've never met any kind of celebrity.
On another note, I've seen it several times that Sam Rockwell is kind of a douche. Not sure if this is just bad timing on meeting him or what. But it sucks to know it if he is because he is so enjoyable on the screen. Either way love his work.
Rashad Evans Carlos Condit Leonard Garcia Greg Jackson Clay Guida Donald Cerrone Lots of cool local dudes. I met Neil Patrick Harris in the 90's and the guy was a jerk. Sorry to break the thread rules.
