Because it's glorifies delusion and stupidity. Weight classes exist for a reason, BJ just didn't give a fuck and willing put himself into fights he had zero business taking. Little guy should not fight big guys. This is common sense. Otherwise we're all in for terribly mismatched fights that are just bad for the sport and fighters health. So when we glorify that type of behavior we send a message to up and coming fighters that this is badass and that's what we want to see. When it's not. It's stupid.

Penn is an outlier. Most people arent rich and bored and actually have other things going on in life; don't stress...

Most humans just aren't built for that

Talk about making an issue of nothing...

Don't be a drama queen.

Oh fuck off. He fought Machida at heavyweight and did fine compared to most of Lyoto's opponents.

Penn, saku, hendo, & Royce should all get mad respect for not being scared to fight bigger dudes. Trust me, plenty if their behavior was going to influence young up & coming dudes to fight bigger guys it would've happened by now.

I agree with you, you are right Guy.

Immoral? Holy hyperbole...

Penn fought bigger fighters. It was great to see him beat Hughes. Sometimes he bit off more than he could chew. Better to have tried and failed.

Oh, and in his own division at his peak he was incredible.

Um a smaller fighter beating a bigger fighter at the highest level demands nothing but respect. The willingness to do it imo isn't stupidity at all and will set them apart from a sea load of fighters. They will be remembered in the end. Penn, Saku, Royce, Anderson will be remembered while others won't be.

And don't forget kid Yamamoto, that fool slayed bigger opponents his whole career

Remember when Penn took the Nike slogan and changed "do it" to "scrap"? I do. I cringed.

You know the little fella was trying to get a big sponsorship with that retarded shit. Right around the time his conqueror got a big deal with under armour.

what exactly makes bj penn so good? cos he KOd Caol Uno? lol. he's 16 and 10 and has lost to everyone good he's fought, matt hughes is 45 and 9 lol. 2 of his losses to penn but 1 win on penn and a way more impressive record

Small guys trashing big guys taught us a lot about the truths of TMA and proto-MMA.

You do know just scrap has been a saying in Hawaii since like the 70's or so. Just because you only heard it now doesn't mean it existed before.

You must live an incredibly dull life, TS. Success is built on the foundation of danger and risk, and thats why BJ will always be a legend in this sport.
