Movie 1 True Crime

p22708_p_v8_af.jpg

Synopsis: Can an over-the-hill journalist uncover the evidence that can prove a death row inmate's innocence just hours before his execution?

My Rating: 6/10

I thought the movie was alright/decent. It has its moments. I felt they should have gotten a better actor to play the innocent man on death row. Isiah Washington is no Denzel that's for certain.

I did not like the race to beat the clock to save him before he got the lethal injection, Clint was wasted out of his mind, there wasn't enough time, and he certainly would have gotten arrested for running from the police. I hated the ending, I thought the inmate should have died. The moment/head nod was cheesy and dumb as well.

The cast was decent overall minus Washington. Dennis Leary and James Woods were a good duo on screen and was hoping they got a little more time.

Overall it was decent but not a film I would want to watch again.

Movie 2: Absolute Power

Synopsis: Career thief Luther Whitney (Clint Eastwood) witnesses a horrific crime involving U.S. President Alan Richmond (Gene Hackman).

My rating: 6/10

Again, another decent/alright movie. The premise of the movie is absolutely stupid, Clint is a jewel thief that witnessed the president/secret service kill someone during a sex gone wrong encounter lol

I imagine ol Clint was smoking weed when he came up with this idea. The cast is really good which makes up for the story. The ending was really dumb as well.

the president "kills himself" but was stabbed by the old man whose wife the president was sleeping with/killed. Lol

Overall it's a dumb story but the cast makes it worth watching. I wouldn't watch it again.

Weird timing for this thread, as I just rewatched both of these for only the second time each a couple of weeks ago.

I thought the movie was alright/decent.

Yup. Not terrible but nothing special either.

Dennis Leary and James Woods were a good duo on screen and was hoping they got a little more time.

The "banter" was cringey as fuck but it was still fun seeing the three of them together. Leary in particular was fantastic, easily the best character/performance in the film IMO.

To clarify, this film was adapted from a novel by David Baldacci. Clint didn't come up with it. And as someone who's read a shit ton of thriller novels like this, the film feels like a novel, which is its biggest drawback IMO. Structurally, the script is a mess, as the film fails as an adaptation: The "inciting incident" takes up the majority of the film to where the last half can only be a letdown. And sure enough, after the crime, the film drags and never picks up any momentum. But I'm a sucker for a good premise and a thief witnessing a crime and not being able to say anything is a killer premise. It was just executed much better in the phenomenal horror movie The Collector.

Movie 3: Heartbreak Ridge

Synopsis: Hard-nosed, hard-living Marine Gunnery Sergeant Tom Highway (Clint Eastwood) clashes with his superiors and his ex-wife as he takes command of a spoiled recon platoon with a bad attitude.

My Rating: 7/10

This might be the toughest character Clint has played yet never gets mentioned when discussing some of the roles he has played in his career. He plays a Marine Sargent that basically does whatever he wants since his credentials speak for itself and the military needs him.

I wasn't the biggest fan of Mario Van Peebles the first time I watched this but seeing it again I appreciated his character a lot more this time around.

There are some scenes that would never happen/come off a little silly....

When Clints character fights the monster white guy, Clint beats him up and then makes him join the Marines/his unit right then and there lol

Also when they needed to make the collect call and Mario's character pulls out a credit card to make payment. A little silly but definitely more likely than making someone join the Marines instantly lol

Overall I think it's a good movie worth checking out if you have never seen it.

Most impressive thing about the movie was Clint's physique at 56.

It was one of those ones that I really wanted to like a lot and found it worth a watch but not great. Felt the same way about Pale Rider.

Respectable movie, sets out to do what it wanted to do but Clint was definitely lagging behind the A-list action guys at this point. This was sort of his competition for Rambo 2 and Commando. Good on him for even getting in the ring at his age though.

I liked heartbreak ridge a lot. Thought the cast worked well each other

Pretty sure the Swede was already a Marine and possibly a part of that unit as well when Gunny applied corrective action...

...he was just spending some time in the brig during the initial meet and greet.

He was already a Marine and part of that recon unit. Highway saying "You're going to become a Marine right now" just meant Swede wasn't going to the brig, he was going to continue to train with recon.

With a few minor tweaks of the script, Gran Torino could've been made into a HR sequel imo

I agree, I also found Absolute Power to be nothing remarkable. But there was one scene I can still recall.

Clint Eastwood's hero character ambushes a corrupt Secret Service guy by sneaking behind him and sticking a hypodermic of poison in his neck.

The Secret Service guy mumbles "Mercy" and Clint Eastwood pauses, then says "I'm fresh out." and finishes the injection. Such a cold line!

it also presented a reasonable way for 68-year-old Clint to overcome a younger, stronger opponent.

I really wanted to like Heartbreak Ridge but the unrealistic silly stuff just took me out of it too much.

The actors playing the recon marines looked like actors playing soldier. They didn't move like military or carry gear like military.

By the time they got to the invasion and they were running around hip-firing their M16s with no cover, like something out of a 1980s TV show, I was rolling my eyes.

I know it's a 1986 movie, but Platoon came out the same year. Full Metal Jacket the year after. They made Heartbreak Ridge look like a joke.

Movie 4: The Rookie

Synopsis: A veteran detective is assigned a rookie partner after his previous partner is killed by a car theft gang. He is determined to apprehend those responsible for his friend's death but his new partner isn't really up to the task.

My Rating: 7/10

I am giving this a 7 but it's not a good movie. It is bad but it's actually good lol It is really enjoyable if you're stoned because it's so corny and at times dumb, yet it works. This film was enjoyable for the most part, i enjoyed the 50+ one liners that Clint and Charlie say hoping one of them sticks as a "infamous catch phrase"

It's cheesy but hilarious. And it works perfectly just because of Charlie Sheen. This film was his pre Hot Shots unintentionally. Clint and Charlie are an odd pairing, yet they work and they make this film work.

Again it's not a good film by any means, but I can guarantee you if you get stoned and watch it, you will be pleasantly entertained.

Clint Eastwood & Charlie Sheen chase after Raul Julia, what more can you want?

random yet needed was when the chick randomly bangs Clint Eastwood as he's tied up lol

Movie 5: The Mule

MV5BMTc1OTc5NzA4OF5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTgwOTAzMzE2NjM@._V1_.jpg

Synopsis: A ninety-year-old horticulturist and Korean War veteran turns drug mule for a Mexican cartel.

My Rating: 8/10

I like this movie a lot. I first saw it in theaters with my father so there is a nostalgic element for me, but even still this is a great film. I liked Clints performance A LOT. The supporting cast (Bradley Cooper, Lawrence Fishbourne, Michael Pera & Dianne Wiest) were excellent. The story itself is believable and is based off true events.

One scene I didn't care for was...

Earl gets pulled over by the cop and he wipes Vaseline on the dogs nose to avoid being caught. While it sounds cool and all, I can't see a cop letting his dog off leash or the dog being friendly with Earl allowing him the opportunity to use the Vaseline. In reality that dog more than likely would have attacked him or at least bit him when he touched his nose.

I also thought the cartel or even Earl himself would think to make him change vehicles since they knew black trucks were getting pulled over.

Even still, I think this is a great movie, at worst, a really good movie that you should check out if you haven't seen it.

The message of the film is powerful, at least to me at the end.

Lol, I Love Heartbreak Ridge but that's a cheesy 80s movie.
1. Unforgiven
2.The Outlaw Jessie Wales
3. Gran Torino
Thank you.

Immediate thought was how the fuck is Gran Torino not in this list?

Clint Eastwood Movie Rankings

1. The Mule
2. Heartbreak Ridge
3. The Rookie
4. Absolute Power
5. True Crime

You have a very weird list. No Good, Bad, and the Ugly for Unforgiven. Paper Moon, or Million Dollar Baby.

I am going say this. He has hardly any acting range. After Unforgiven or Paper Moon all he plays is old, grouchy white guy. I like Mule but it felt like a very flat movie with no depth or heart. Gran Tarino had a few good scenes but sacrificed heart and depth to appeal to people that want to see old tough guy racist scenes. Cry Mucho just felt silly with a dad sending a 90+ year old man to get his kid in Mexico. It is like who is taking care of who.

Clint Eastwood is an actor and director that has gone from having amazing nuance to being so blunt and insultingly simple.
