I have noticed lately that a lot of my friends who are only casual fans of the ufc have a hard time comprehending why Hendricks is not getting a title shot. One friend in particular was in total disbelief saying "WTF, Diaz lost his late fight and Hendricks has been knocking everyone out, how the f*** does this make sense"?

What am I meant to say to them?, that the ufc is just all about the money and is not a legitimate sport?. Image if two teams made it to the NFL superbowl and then one team got told they can't play because they are not as popular as another team who missed out. It would be bullsh*t, which is pretty much what is happening now. I think Dana has given up on trying to justify the legitimacy of the UFC, especially with openly admitting that if Ronda loses they will most likely scrape the womans division.

In a perfect world Johnny would probably get the fight but its not a perfect world. Also if you look at it in a pure rankings system at the time of the Condit vs Diaz fight we had

    GSP - 1
Condit and Diaz fighting for number 2

    obviously after that fight

    GSP - 1
    Condit - 2
    Diaz - 3

I realize the UFC doesn't really use a linear ranking system but its not hard to see Diaz getting the next shot even if coming off a loss. Also what makes this argument hard to make would be Diaz getting suspended but if you take into consideration that fact that Dana doesn't really think weed is a ped its not hard to see why Diaz isn't punished for it.

At the end of the day no matter what arguments are made this fight comes down to pure business, plain and simple.

If Diaz had beaten someone of note in the interim then yes but he was suspended at home while Hendrick was beating assess. I don't see Diaz capable of defeating Fitch even.

Nick Diaz is ranked in the top 5 still, his last fight with Condit was extremely close and a lot of people feel Nick got robbed in it (a lot of people also think Condit won, though, so whatever) and Dana White was even trying to set up a rematch between them because of how controversial it was before Nick got suspended, and this's the main thing: GSP wants it. GSP has been one of the company men for the UFC for a long time, and he's never had any problems with the opponents he's been given before, so for once in his career, why shouldn't he be given an opponent he wants to fight? 1 on 1 combat isn't the same as a team sport or a soccer league or anything like that, so you can't go around saying that this's taking legitimacy away from MMA because it wouldn't happen in the NFL. It's a gay and overused analogy, but it's comparing apples and oranges.

Also, Nick's chances are way better than people give him credit for; wrestling doesn't have this absolute superiority to BJJ, and Nick has some of the best BJJ at WW, and he's probably better off of his back than anybody GSP's fought before. Really, his biggest problem is fixing the holes that Condit and Bendo have shown in the Diaz style of fighting, and I'm sure that he's been working diligently on fixing those holes ever since. He has about as much of a chance as Hendricks does of getting a one-punch KO (which's his only chance of beating GSP, getting that one-punch KO).

If they are fully aware of Hendricks standing and are actually thinking/care of why he's not getting the title shot over the more well known, popular, and marketable fighter then they are NOT casual fans.

GSP-Diaz is for the casual fan or hardcore fans like me who isnt totally concerned with where Hendricks ranks more than i want to see the fights i want to see...i prefer GSP-Diaz. That will reflect in the buyrates when it does better than GSP-Condit which GSP-Hendricks would fall short of.

GSP will run through both Hendricks and Diaz. Does it really matter who he beats first?

The only reason I'm okay with this fight is that it is the only way we'll see GSP-Diaz, Nick is going to go .500 if he starts fighting the WW top-10. Hendricks should be able to beat Ellenberger if he wants to beat GSP anyway.

I'm not either because I can't wait for GSP to dominate him. The only reason Diaz is getting this fight is because the fans want to see it. Does he deserve it? Hell no but he's been talking enough sh!t that he's going to get it. I think Condit is a bigger threat to GSP than Diaz and we all saw what GSP did to Condit

Well for alot of people condit vs diaz was a bad decision and also i find it weird that when he fought gomi and won he pissed hot and got a no contest. But when he lost and pissed hot its still a loss. I can see how someone can make a case for either side of the condit/diaz dec but fact of the matter is diaz is still ranked above hendricks though i think hendricks should get the next shot.

Yeah, the Ufc is like a long running sitcom now, which is a bummer as it was so great as recently as 2-3 years ago. now there is good stuff mixed with filler and bs, and Diaz fighting Gsp is bs, and jones fighting Sonnen is hmc sh&t.

I'm gonna call BS on this one. Casual fans don't talk about Hendricks. They want to know when Chuck Liddell fights next.

These aren't casual fans, they sound like they know a good amount about MMA and have enough interest to be able to recall fighters recent records. They may not be strictly hardcore but they're not casual.

Casual fans are like "breh, gee see pee dont finish fights hes a bitch i only wach eavywaits for the kay ohs"

It'll be five rounds, and the winner gets the WW championship.

    So easy...

Hey I'm a condit fan but the fight with Nick was very close - I understand why he is getting the shot.

Hendricks 'deserves' it more on pure results but in terms of skill, beef and cashmoney Diaz is right there.

    GSP 50-45 of course.
