His best imho:
The Wolf of Wall Street, Casino, Cape Fear, Goodfellas, Taxi Driver, The Departed.
Just my opinion, but really liked those

Even though it's a good movie, I think it is the least good of his gangster trilogy behind Goodfellas and the Irishman.

It's kind of gotten a little bit worse every time I've rewatched, but my first time watching Casino as a kid was magic. Couldn't look away. Only Scorsese film that's had that effect on me

It is the kind of film you think is the best thing ever made when your 18 IMHO, basically all the cool gangster debauchery of Goodfellas without the same amount of drama.

Still though I do think Marty might have been better off just sticking to this style even if it ended up in dimishing returns, going the other direction and trying to make tightly plotted Hollywood films didn't suit him. Gangs of Newyork as a Bill the Butcher crime epic would have been far better than the revenge thriller he tried to make it IMHO.

WHY does everyone sleep on Shutter Island? That was a GREAT movie. And dare I say, Cape Fear was better than Taxi Driver.....

Agreed.

It's filled with so many amazing scenes. You can watch any random clip without knowing the context and be thoroughly entertained. Joe Pesci was especially amazing.

Casino has better writing, directing, acting, and cinematography than Goodfellas.

There isnt anybody in Casino who comes off nearly as corny as Karen does in Goodfellas. The parts she narrates almost kill the movie.

Ace Rothstein is a much more compelling character than coke head Henry Hill. De Niro is also much much better in Casino than he was in Goodfellas. That "give me the fucking money" scene in Goodfellas is so bad. Was he adlibbing?

Most importantly for me the direction and camera work in Casino reach heights that Goodfellas does not. Goodfellas has really good camera work but what Richardson and Scorsese did in Casino is really something else. Completely virtuosic cinematography.

Just the opposite. Goodfellas is the movie you think is cool when your a kid, cause it glamorizes the life. Casino has far more drama in it. Come on dude. Seriously?

Casino ain't Marty's best but it's probably the movie I watched the most. Great acting by the 3 leads especially Joe Pesci who was hilarious. "Yeah, that's why you had it ready, you thought I was laying it! Fuck around, Tony. Jagoff!" LOL

I noticed that too that it's not a great one to rewatch. I mean I enjoyed rewatching it this winter, but I was definitely noticing a lot of annoying Scorseseisms throughout like the constant need for narration and soundtrack.

In some ways it might be his high water mark for story and low water stylistically. At least for his better works.

No they aren’t. Casino also has re watchability.
Taxi driver LToC arent movies you just “turn on” or can catch any point during the movie.

Movies like casino and Goodfellas are like that. You can flip the them on and just watch them at any point in time.

no just causally put on last temptation of Christ sake way you don’t casually just put on Schindler’s List. I’d rather watch casino and Goodfellas over taxi driver and LToC any day of the week.

Goodfellas’ rewatchability is through the roof. Casino has great replay value too but I still always think that Goodfellas is superior to it. Both great though.

Taxi Driver is amazing in its own right. You’re right, doesn’t have the same degree of rewatch value but it’s a terrific film.
