Ok so in my life i have never been able to complete 10 minutes of anything without dying. so i completley stopped cardio and procrastinated (<---Spelling?) But i was sick and tired of being chubby and i wanted to have a stronger heart for wrestling so i got on the stationary bike and suprisingly for 15 minutes i stayed on at over 100 rpm .

i was sweating like balls but i was not even gasping for air, Not even close and after getting off i didnt even want any water and i could speak with out passing out.

i dont know how i could all of a sudden just be ok at it or even good but heres my question

1) Is the stationary bike a good means of cardio for Both fat loss and heart strengthening

2) my average speed is 95-110 rpm but when i go balls out i reach 170-180, i can go higher but im really loud and i dont want people to think im an asshole oranything. but Are my stats ok or am i being a pussy?

3)how many times a week should i repeat this if its any good?

Oh yea and also when i am done with the 15 minutes i am completley DRENCHED from head to toe in sweat. like i see people sweat and i thought they sweat alot like a wet shirt was alot but when i finished i was like COT DAMN because even my calves where wet and i dont think i have ever sweat this much in my life

i sweat fucking buckets and it scared th fuck out of me because its like i came out of a shower, curious as to why this is?

People sweat differently. I sweat by breathing in air over 80 degrees.

i guess i sweat like a freaking tap

i never used to sweat much, but i this has been a particularlly hot summer and i have been sweating a lot more during training, maybe something to factor in

Man I sweat more than anyone I've ever met. People actually ask me if there is something wrong with me when I work out.

As far as the stationary bike. Try to make the routine interesting by putting more resistance and build up. I find it easier with headphones b/c we all know that riding a bike while not moving can get pretty old.

What i have set myself to do is to beat the 20 minute alpine pass program at about level 6 and over 100 rpm.

when that is completed i want to go to level 8 resistance and build up to 20 minutes. should be intense after so long. i want to one day reach level 20 and go for 20 minutes. i will surely die past that point.

so are stationary bikes ok for weightloss and cardio strengthening at the pace im going at?

I love my stationary bike. I can usually keep the RPM's over 110 for 25 minutes. That said, hard intervals on the bike are far more taxing. Once you're able to go for 25-30 minutes at a good pace, work in some tabata sprints and some sprint 8's.

I sweat way more after a long steady workout, but intervals leaved me fucking whipped.

I like the stationary bike too. Real biking is a big hobby of mine but the stationary does permit you to go balls out until you puke and miscarry, without the danger of crashing.

I enjoy super intense intervals to keep it short and challenging - the best workout I've come across was in that goofy Body for Life plan: Get on the bike and pedal at 50% effort, escalating your effort by 10% every minute until you reach 90% VO2 max. Maintain that for a minute, then bring it back down to 50% and begin again. Repeat five or six times, and on the final circuit you push for 100% for a full minute. Twenty minutes of total quad-shredding brutality, and it suits the stationary bike much better than tabatas.

i'd worry more about your heart rate than the rpm's on the bike. once you got your heart rate figured out, then you add in the rpm's to figure how fast you should be pedalling to keep your heart rate in your target training zone.

a quick way to figure out your target training zone would be subtract your age from 220 and then multiply that figure by anywhere from 55-95. this 55-95 number represents your training intensity. if you're out of shape, you want to stay at the lower end of the intensity scale and slowly work your way up to the higher numbers.

Interesting. Could you elaborate on this because it's something I've been pondering myself.

I think running is better for hardcore cardio.. Bike seems too easy for me.. If you do bike, I tend to find setting resistance is better than pedeling faster if you want to work harder..

I never feel comfortable on a stationary bike. I'd rather run

Swimming is a key tool. no pounding on the knees etc......although i do add running ..jogging..and walking, (sprint intervals)......This helps with the cardio. Skipping to warm up is an obvuos for most of us on here as well

Will the bike help me reduce the fat? i just hate running so swimming and any other alternative i will most definetly try but can the bike be usefull to help in burning fat?

Less reps with the fork, and keep up the cardio - you will lose weight.

Weight loss = calories in < calories burned
