Yes money is a big part of it, who has made them the most and more importantly who is potentially going to make them the most going forwards..

..but these guys are fight fans first. How would you feel if you were told you had to have a completely objective mindset watching the fights. That you couldn't cheer for, or at least hope for one guy or the other to win. Rooting for someone just makes the sport more engaging, and you would surely lose interest if you didn't.

So it suprises me when people are up in arms about the UFC brass having favoritism towards McGregor. This guy is the full package, entertaining on the mic, entertaining in the octagon, potentially skillful enough to go on a streak large enough to bring in some serious PPV numbers, and not to forget being essential in growing his country's interest in the sport.

At least the UFC are paying attention to their talent, wouldn't it be worse if they ignored McGregor? Building up McGregor not only helps him, but it also gives recognition and attention to his teammates, opponents and ultimately the entire featherweight division.

I don't think they're fight fans first.

They're fight fans, but their first love is the allmighty dollar.

All sports is entertainment and fighting is no different.

Yeah, brah. Totally. Why should he just pretend that he's a neutral professional overseeing a legitimate competition on an even playing field? We all know that's not how the world works.

On a serious note, how would you feel if your boss favored another employee over you, despite your contribution to the company? What if you were in court and the judge favored the other party because he didn't like your hair? What if your doctor postponed your cancer treatment for two weeks because he favored a more lucrative procedure with another patient? You wouldn't care, because they're human beings first, right? They shouldn't have to suppress their gut instincts for the sake of professionalism, right?

Idiot.

Almost every person in a management role has a go to employee that they give special treatment to. Its a two way street, the more a person offers to their employer the more benefits they get. There's nothing wrong with that.

These guys are fight fans first? I doubt that very much lol

The thing that distinguishes favoritism from the scenario you described is merit. Sure there are plenty of shitty bosses who play favorites. There are also plenty of businesses that never go anywhere because of turnover. There's plenty wrong with that, from both a moral and business perspective.

Say a company gives their best salesman a bigger bonus, first class plane tickets, upgraded accommodations for business trips etc. There is nothing wrong with that. This is essentially what is going on with Conor. He gets eyeballs on the UFC thus he benefits from it. It happens all the time. The opportunity is there for anyone on the UFC roster that is willing to do what it takes to contribute to the company the way that Conor does. Sell tickets, get money. Its not complicated.

Conor's case is special, the lower divisions badly needs attention, something he gets aplenty.

Part of the reason why Dana is a joke is because he keeps preaching how the current flavor of the month is the greatest fighter ever and the biggest star they've ever had who draws the most money they've ever seen... bla bla bla. If it's plausible, then great... but more often than none the comparison is outrageous and the motives of the claims are financially driven.

Don't get me wrong, I understand why he does it.... but it's also insulting the intelligence of his fanbase cause we hardcore fans are smarter than that.

No matter how great Ronda, Jones, Cain, Aldo & Weidman are, as soon as they will be dethroned Dana will downplay their brilliance in favor of an up and coming unproven talented fighter.

Rinse & Repeat.
Rinse & Repeat.
Rinse & Repeat.

etc
