I mean...didn't the guy once stop EARLY and start celebrating because he thought he finished the guy? (which he was about to do, the ref just hadn't intervened yet)

I bet after he got back to Brazil his masters drilled it into his head to NEVER stop fighting unless the ref stop you...plus he's not exactly the brightest guy in the world.

His trainers probably whipped him for messing up in that fight.

I bet all that was going through his head when he was cranking on that leg was "please dont whip me, please don't whip me". At that point he probably doesn't even realize he's in a fight, his eyes probably roll to the back of his head and just starts cranking with all his might.

His corner must have some kind of safe word they use to disable him. We just gotta figure it out then we can all beat him.

And before that they probably drilled into his head that he needs to stop fighting as quickly as possible to avoid being suspended again.

That's enough to drive anyone crazy!

Seriously. Now they are going to tell him some new shet like "you gotta listen to the ref" and he's just going to snap and kill everyone.

"YOU TOLD ME NOT TO STOP, NOW DANA KICK ME OUT" *snaps leg off

i'm pasting this from another thread that i got to a little late

maybe i'm crazy but i just saw the fight for the 1st time and i didn't really notice it - maybe all the hype made me expect something worse and the way people are talking made it sound like he had to be pulled off pierce - they're trained to go until the ref intervenes and it looked to me like he let go as soon as he noticed the ref jump in - if anything it seemed the ref was out of position and as a result it took him a few moments longer than it should have to get in the middle of it - i also noticed that annik and florian didn't say anything either even after a few replays

mind you, my previous posts will attest to the fact that i'm not some "just bleed" guy and i'm also not a palhares fan - i think this is more his rep and past incidences (adcc) coloring the event more than anything else

He had a reputation for holding too long way before that.

I think this just serves to show that Paul Harris doesn't really know or understand what is going on. He's just that simple. Of Mice and Men caliber.

The Dan Miller fight and the Mike Pierce fights were two completely different situations.

They were both situations in which Paul Harris acted incorrectly and did not follow basic sporting rules.

He did something stupid in every one of his UFC fights, including the one you mentioned. Before that fight, he destroyed Drwal's leg by holding a sub too long, so one has nothing to do with the other. He's been doing this bullshit a long time.

Yes he seems to be the only fighter in the UFC that doesn't understand when a ref stops a fight. I mean he stopped himself early when Dean was hovering near him, and he has stopped too late on at least 3 occasions that I have seen. Whether he does it on purpose or doesn't understand the rules it doesn't matter. He has no place in the UFC.
