I have known quite a few people who have been through rough times and most often, it's financial problems. I was talking to a co-worker and a friend of mine who I've known for a couple of years now. He has had a lot of debt and now it's all coming back to bite him through wage garnishment. He needs money to pay for bankruptcy, and he has siblings and his parents are still alive. He can't borrow money from them. Not sure if they're broke or what, but they're in good standing with him and his wife.

Can you say that your siblings or parents are going to help you if you need help?

Absolutely. I've never had any debt but if I did and needed a bailout my parents would help right away. Sadly this isn't always a good thing. My brother has made many poor choices financially and my parents have bailed him out (close to if not 6 figures worth). I think this has enabled his poor decisions

Your title is a bit misleading, at least from my perspective.
You can depend on your family for things other than money. And if they're not in a position to help financially, it doesn't mean they're not there for you.

No doubt. I have 3 brothers all in their 30's who would not hesitate to help me or each other, and have before. My parents and in laws would do the same without hesitation

My brother still owes me $20k from a loan 4 years ago that he say will pay me back monthly. So if it's money issue, I sure as hell can't depend on my family.

If it's health issue, I'm sure my parents will try their best, at their age, to take care.

No doubt, and I do the same for them. My sister just got her car repoed and I sold her my first car for less then half of the kbb value.

Nope I don't have much to speak of. I'm sure my in-laws would I suppose but we have more money than them.

Yes. When we took a big hit on our house selling in November I had to cash out part of a 401k to bring money to close. My dad said he'd have loaned it to us but I told him that he raised me better than to ask.

We were in the situation because of lifestyle choices my wife and I made in the past so i wouldn't have felt right with a bailout for my past stupidity.

My mom doesn't have a ton of money.

But I believe from the bottom of my heart that she will always be there for me in any way she can. She will do what is humanly possible. She is an angel and I am so lucky to have grown up with her guiding me.
