I've been considering taking Salsa lessons recently, and was just curious how many people have tried to learn how to dance and what there experience was?
It's weird for me because growing up in my late teens and early twenties, I used to love to goto clubs. A couple drinks and it was no problem for me to go out there and ask a girl to dance. Sometimes, i felt my rhythm was pretty in sync and other times, typically with a girl who could really dance, where she would have me like 10 steps behind.
A couple years ago I was living in Argentina. There it seemed like everyone had the ability to dance. And whatever ability that I thought I had was quickly squashed.
To be further exemplified, I was invited to a Venezuelan BBQ by a girl I was dating out there. The party was cool, food was great, women were beautiful, etc etc. But towards the end of the party they dimmed the lights and started bumping Salsa music. Instantly everyone started partnering up and cutting it up. All while I stood off to the side, a poor gringo realizing everyone in this party can dance but me. A few moments later, this older lady approached me and asked why I wasn't dancing and I basically replied with I dont really know how.
In hindsight, a quick I'm not feeling well would of sufficed, but no, she thought it would be a good idea to take me in the middle of where everyone was dancing and teach me. At this point, everyone made a big circle around us. As the awkwardness reached an all-time high, we begin to dance, and I proceed to bust out the most off rhythm dancing you can imagine.
Therefore, I swore to myself that one day I would learn how to dance. Any others have experience learning how to dance?
