Can we admit now that Jamahal Hill was never a top 20 talent?

Hill is a tall dude with good reach who did well against very damaged fighters like Santos and Glover just because he had an able body. Doesn't seem to have any technique to carry him when he's physically matched.

Hard to say what his level is right now because his youth, health and will to fight seem to be diminishing and there's not much left without them.

His claim to fame was knocking out Walker, Santos, and Glover back to back.

That looks impressive until you realize Walker has been knocked out 6 times, Santos is 1 and 6 since losing to Jones and having his knees destroyed, and Glover was 43 and retired...

He fought his first legit in prime top ten guys and got destroyed....

I honestly don't think he can beat the likes of Krylov, Oezdemir, Ulberg..

I doubt be was ever better than a guy like Ryan Spann.. just in the right place at the right time.

So he KO'd 3 guys that were in the top 20 including knocking out the champion and he wasn't a top 20 talent?

Achilles injuries are the hardest for an athlete to come back from and ruin careers. On top of that, Jamahal came back way too soon. His style relied more on athleticism/power than anything else and both of those are definitely diminished now, in addition to fighting a harder strength of schedule.

Glover wasnt the champion they fought for the vacant belt because Jiri got injured

He also had constant knee problems, which would lead to long lay off. And Khalil uses heavy oblique kick and strong calf kicks. That took a toll on Hill's movements. Kicks to the body too, he lost his explosiveness quicky...

What does top 20 talent even mean, he was literally the champion, ergo ranked 1 or above 1 if you consider 1 to be the top challenger. So therefore he was obviously a "top 20 talent", and I assume he still is ranked in the top 10, so therefore he still is a "top 20 talent".

And Glover didn't get knocked out

OP stated later that they meant "all time"

That was not explained/addressed at all in the first post, but given that's the measuring stick, yeah, I don't think anyone puts Hill in the top 20, even with the belt

*edit*
I'm sorry brother I made a mistake in my original post I meant top 20 all time at LHW... there are plenty of LHW who never won gold that are much better than Hill
You might want to edit that into the first post, cuz I think this confusion will persist

can we all agree that something that happened didn't happen?

these 'can we all agree' threads never go well.

LOL This is peak Sherdog.

Can we all agree that a guy who beat a bunch of top 15 guys isn't top 20?

He ruptured his Achilles.

Do you have any idea what a serious fucking injury that is?

The guy can barely move anymore.

Fair enough, KO'd former champion. My point was he was a top 20 talent and might even be right now. He's coming off an injury and something is missing right now, there is no question about it. MMA is a game of inches and when you are a little off, it makes a big difference. Was he overrated for a bit? Probably. Could he be at the beginning of a Rockhold-type slide? It's possible. Was he flat on Saturday? I think so.

first off, He did not KO glover
Secondly, glover was not the champion

Homie could barely move before

Idk where he sits probably around 11-15.

He’s got a task at hand to beat anyone that lines up as his next matchup.

He’s a very limited brawler with no backup skills when he can’t KO you.

I think a fight with Rakic is in order. Rakic is a way better fighter but they are both 0-3 and desperately need a win. their careeres depend on it. If they don't go that way I could see hill getting Krylov.

It's hard to rate him because Jon Jones screwed up that division for years and he was champ at a relatively weak point in the LHW division. Until Alex, no one really had a good dominant run against the elite of the division.

I corrected the fact that Glover wasn't champion in a previous post. He KO'd Walker, TKO'd Santos and beat Glover in a decision. My details were riddled with errors but my main point stands. He was easily a top 20 guy at the time and I would say a top 5 guy. He looked flat on Saturday IMO.

Oh, makes sense.
Sorry back at you - brotha.
