Can there be an honest discussion about Conor's chances against Aldo?

I know Conor has a lot of love on this forum, but can honesty prevail? Let's think about this for just a minute. Sure, Conor looked impressive last night, but there are holes in his game. Siver tagged him a couple of times and took him down. Siver made it out of the first round, which a lot of people (even Conor) didn't expect to happen. Siver is one of the first people on this tear to expose holes in Conor's game.

Conor will be facing a MASSIVE uptick in competition. We all know how good Aldo is, and one of the advantages Aldo has is the fact that he wins a lot by decision (even though most fans don't like decisions, they want highlight reel wins.) Aldo is going to take Conor into deep water, and Conor will not be able to keep up that pace through five rounds. Conor will be in real trouble when Aldo goes after that lead leg, which he is known to do, and that stance is the basis of all of Conor's striking ability and movement. Once Aldo starts chopping on that leg, what is Conor left with?

Don't get me wrong, I think Conor is exciting and a breath of fresh air in that division, but how does he get it done where others haven't?

Where one fighter excelled over others, he will now have met an equal.

This applies to both fighters. To say one will completely dominate the other is absurd at this point. I can't call it, I'm just really glad it's happening. Only Pettis/Aldo would have made me as happy.

Aldo is the greatest anti wrestler of our time, but he has always looked significantly less impressive against inferior fighters who are looking to only stand up with him.

So who the fuck would be better to test that than Conor fucking McGregor?

There's a reason that the opening betting odds have come out with Aldo as a tiny favorite. I wouldn't be surprised if Conor was the favorite come fight time, then what?

Edit: Betting line already released. Future Title Fight. Aldo -140, McGregor +100.

Can we first be honest that 85% of Conor fans are just on the wagon for the lulz.

I say he wins it via mental telepathy.

    I see deez tings.

    Call me mystic brick.

I think Aldo wins, but I would be lying if I said I'm not worried.

realistically? conor has a shot, ill admit that.. his flashy strikes might keep aldo on the defensive long enough for conor to open up his game..

but simply, aldo has more ways to win.. siver was landing leg kicks that took conors legs out from under him. imagine what aldo leg kick would do to conor? aldo is probably one of the most technically sound strikers in all of mma and on top of that his TD are underrated as hell..

aldo might take conor down for shits and giggles, and if he does well see what conor is really made of... we haven't seen much of aldo on the ground but what we have seen... is impressive. impressive mounts over lamas and even mendes... his bjj credentials are legit...

all in all, conor seems to have only one way to win, and that's standing... while aldo seems to have multiple ways to win imho.

Conor is my favorite fighter and I think this match will be awesome. I think Aldo is slight favorite in this one but Conors style is something Aldo have never faced. Cant wait to see what will happen.

Bookies don't set the money line on only who they think may win, but also on the bets being booked. If lots of people are throwing money on McGregor, it will skew the odds against him.

I think Conor presents an interesting challenge. He showed that he gauges distance very well and utilizes his reach well which could present some problems for Aldo.

I expect Aldo to be a bit confused by McGregor in the first round or possibly two but eventually Aldo will adjust and figure him out, taking a late TKO or UD.

    Yeah, that's the point.

The odds for an Aldo fight have NEVER been this close.
