    Hi guys,

Maybe it's been asked before, but can the UFC bench Silva? It seems Dana wants him to retire, but he still has a fight left on his contract. How does this legally work? I understand Silva is expensive, but he looked pretty decent for a 45 year old vet. I would not mind him taking a fight against Maya, Lawler or Weidman, but it appears Dana wants nothing of that.

Dana could force him to fight against Conor if he wanted to.

I believe he has to offer him a fight or release him from his contract.

Yeah, and I suspect the public comments about "being right about him not fighting anymore" is to influence state athletic commisions to not license him so he would not have any value to competitor MMA promotions.

Yeah possibly, but many 40+ guys are still fighting (Lidell fought Tito about a year ago at the age of 75). It does look like Dana wants to make sure other promotions are hessistant to pick him up. Its weird to me, just release the guy, he made the company a lot of money.

If Anderson still wants to fight Dana's obliged to offer him a fight within a certain time limit or release him from his contract, no idea what the time limit is though.

They will have to release him, which Dana said they would. Frankly he should, too many ex-legends with CTE is bad for business. Chuck and BJ are already an ugly reminder of what happens when you stick around too long. I dont want to see that happen to Silva.

Dana manipulated him into promising it would be his last fight “he gave me his word”

Dana knows he would go to Bellator so he forced him to retire before his last fight on his contract. Also they wouldn’t have to pay him another million for a fight.

if he decided he wanted to fight, Dana would make it as hard as he could legally and prolong his last fight to be petty which is what they did to Wanderlei.

Its the same with Brock, I believe the UFC still has a fight under contract with them, so if they fight they must fight under the UFC. Now the UFC could release them allowing them to fight elsewhere but Silva should retire immediately. Go do BJJ competitions not MMA.

Don’t believe his lies. They will offer Silva a fight and he’ll take it. Shogun, Weidman 3 or Diego Sanchez.

IMO this is not about business. Anderson Silva is not a big draw in 2021. Dana is a fan and doesn't want to see Anderson losing to chumps in Bellator

This would sound right, I'm sure there are laws against restraint of trade in the US.

Dana says he has to offer fighters under contract three fights per year.

So if he doesn’t fire him he has to offer him fights.

Dana will do whatever it takes to either:

    A) Make Anderson retire, in an effort to preserve his remaining face-value / legend, for the benefit of the UFC. A string of losses to low tier fighters and 'bums' will make the casual audience slowly turn on Silva, and subsequently wonder if the UFC ever had good fighters

    B) If Anderson won't retire and wants to be released from the UFC, Dana will do everything in his power to ruin Andeson's life and any future career. Dana will talk endless shit, and Silva will become his mortal enemy

This is a strange one. He's under UFC contract so he can't fight anywhere else legally.

But he does have 1 fight left on contract so legally the UFC has to offer him 3 fights a year or compensate him financially.

I doubt the UFC will pay AS indefinitely. I think eventually they'll let him walk after a year or 2 so that AS will be too old to take another fight.

Silva losing hurts the UFC brand.

Tim Sylvia almost single handily ruined the reputation of the UFC HW division by getting beat up after he left the UFC.
