Can someone explain how did Conor McGregor become so popular?

nahh, he is just a hype Job. Do you remember Barao? He was the GOAT!

A LOT of it has to do with him being white and Irish. Two things that make him likeable for the American market where most of his money comes from.

Plain and simple if his name Alexei Kodorov from Russia or Kyoji Namahara from Japan and he said the exact same things and had the exact same fights he wouldn't have the fan base or the amount of stardom he has now.

Its because most white Americans are like 5% irish by blood and feel like they relate to being Irish. Conor is fighting for every white man in The United States.
Most black Americans probably have that amount of Irish blood too. Barack Obama and Mohammed Ali did.

In terms of popularity, Conor McGregor is the White Man of Muhammad Ali.

No one in MMA or Boxing is popular than Conor McGregor right now, not even the "Hall of Fame" UFC fighters. Everyone who just started watching combat sport talks about him and already sees him as an influential icon when there were dozens of MMA fighters who have accomplished better than him.
So, it got me wondering how did this man became so popular? Did social media played a huge role in this?
He backed his talk with a string of fun fights with KOs. Just the Holloway fight went the distance.

His haters play a huge part when they are telling people Conor has an impossible task, (ie) Chad Mendes, José Aldo, Eddie Alvarez and now Khabib and people hear these critics and go on to see Conor win soundly, it just adds to all of the hysteria.

Floyd is more popular than Conor. He made triple what Conor made for their fight.

The same way the Kardashians did.....Marketing to the retards..

He's the complete package, one of the most exciting fighters in the history of the sport who also happens to be elite, plus he's incredibly charismatic, the main reason though is his honesty, good or bad he's always himself, and subconsciously we all recognize when someone isn't being themselves.

Obviously Dana & the UFC marketing department got behind him, but the fact that they haven't managed to elevate anyone else to anything near his popularity tells you this is all about Conor having the "IT" Factor. He's got personality, talks a lot of shit, seemingly tailor-made for the social media culture & (despite what many Sherdoggers will have you believe) has backed it up in the Octagon beating some absolute beasts. Coming from Ireland certainly doesn't hurt.

How did Ronda Rousey become popular? The UFC Hype Machine. It can make any man or women popular.

Then please explain to me why there's no-one else in the UFC right now even approaching their level of popularity. If it was that easy EVERYONE would be a megastar, hell they couldn't even turn Stipe into a decent draw. Fireman, longest string of Heavyweight defences, most of them KO's & yet the "UFC Hype Machine" that can make any man popular according to you could do nothing with him.

Made a lot of noise, backed it up with some spectacular wins, marketable story and nationality, lots of self belief and self promotion, UFC support, charisma (for a certain - huge - audience).

Perfect mix of ingredients and timing.
