He's conveniently fought mostly strikers in the UFC that we frankly don't know how he'll respond when a guy like belal shoots a takedown. Sure he's got some nice submissions and I wouldn't be too surprised if he passes the test with flying colors but we don't know because he's never fought anyone close to the grappling of Belal.

Even if he gets taken down by Belal, he’s fine. Leon’s mediocre grappling allowed him to squeeze to a decision so I don’t see why Shavkat would be queasy on the ground.

He fought Neil Magny who's a pretty good wrestler but some of the better wrestlers have been refusing to fight down much in the rankings at WW so it's kind of hard to fight them(Usman, Colby, Belal). Shavkat had more submission than TKOs and seems to have a good clinch and sub grappling so I think he will be fine and think in 25 minutes he finds the finish against Belal.

So Shavkat struggled against offensive wrestlers early in his career, but once Dar (his Kazakhstan home gym) brought in a standout Ossetian wrestling coach who was a multiple time Russian Nationals competitor and medalist, he also coached the Cadet worlds team and U19 Kazakh team. Since the arrival of his wrestling coach, Shavkat has shown improved offensive wrestling and improved defensive wrestling vs a guy like Faridun Odilov but granted, we haven't seen Shavkat tested a ton in this regard. He's gotten to work with some Olympic medalists and elite wrestlers in Kazakhstan and Russia along with doing his camps at Killcliff now where everything is available. These guys like Shavkat, he's the beginning of the Kazakh wave...a country with elite wrestling, elite boxing, a strong martial arts culture in Sambo, hand to hand combat and all that too. So his training methods and coaching staff has improved as he's been doing it.

We will see, I assume he will be focusing a ton on wrestling and cardio this entire camp. Belal can go an impressively hard 5 rounds and Shavkat has only been to the 3rd once? And it was a blood and guts fight where if there was a 4/5th it coulda been rough. I think Leon couldn't handle the pressure more than anything, if Neal can Sprawl and brawl Belals ears off, I'd like to think Shavkat can too

Belal's Canelo hands along with Khabib's Father's plan will give Shavkat his 1st UD loss in his pro career

He has that sparring video with Jeremy Jackson, looked like he held his own if I remember right.

Shavkat's wrestling is around high school level. He is better on the ground vs wrestling. He has subs off his back. I think the issue is his cardio. He is a really big guy. I am not sure how hard he can push without getting tired. Belal's cardio is pretty good. His wrestling isn't that tricky but he can push the pace.

Shavkat offensive grappling is really good... he has a lot of submissions and his top game is vicious.

Hopefully he can nullify Belal offensive wrestling and we get ourselves a fight. Belal is too happy winning decisions.

I see belal winning a contentious decision, with a close first or second and belal synching the championship rounds.
