Do you think that Rumble could have used a different strategy than in the first fight and have finished DC.. or would DC always be able to impose the grind on Rumble?

rumble punched himself over. if he has a more calm phil davis type fight he can out kickbox him for 5 rounds probably. will be a tough fight

Rumble can beat anyone with one punch. Coming up with the right gameplan and sticking to it is the challenge.

Yes,absolutely. People are forgetting that even in the second round, after Rumble got tired,he was still kinda overpowering DC and took him down for a second.DC never outwrestled a fresh Rumble. But he fought really stupid,he throw right hooks so hard that he went off-balance multiple times which led to DC grabbing him from favorable positions. And he got tired even worse. We know the rest.

I got Rumble in a possible second fight. He knows the key factors to beat DC and he would train&fight way smarter. He should fight the way he fought against Davis, avoid unnecessary manouvers and he easily got this.

Needed to back it down chasing the finish in the first go, pick his shots more.

He can drop anyone.

If he can handle Cormier grind. Sure. I think Rumble will be champion again except when Jones comes back.

Yeah well this isn't a 2 round fight pall. Rumble gave him everything he had in rounds 1 and 2 and it wasn't enough. I don't see any scenario where he doesn't gas himself out.

Cormier takes the rematch even more convincingly.

Read these 2 sentences you wrote again. Then you will see the scenario where he doesn't gas himself out.

The fact that he throw everything he got quickly is exactly why he lost the fight. Not only because of he emptied his gas tank, but he allowed DC to grab him from behind(in the first minute) which was pretty much suicide.

He can't beat him in a decision, same thing against Jones. He has 1 chance, and that's a lucky punchers chance. Kind of like how he did against Gusta. They beat him everytime if he can't get the knock out though.

Punchers chance isn't "lucky". If you hurt your opponent with a hard shot, than it means you were the better striker. This isn't Boxing101 this is MMA. One mistake could end the fight and it would end rightfully.

Punchers chance is what differs a good striker and a bad. Great strikers do not get caught with punches like that.Plain and simple. They are alert all the time. Like Jon Jones.

I'm not saying Gustafsson is a bad striker. I'm just saying that he wasn't alert enough to be competitive with hard punchers like Rumble so its kind of a bad match up for him.

But then again, I believe Gustafsson is a better fighter than Rumble in general, even though Rumble beats him 9/10.

He was so close to murder DC in a few minutes so its a huge possiblity

Yes, he can.

Against Davis, Johnson hurt him with big shots all the time, but never overcommitted. He kept his distance and was patient , which resulted in outstriking Phil for three rounds. In the Cormier fight, he entered the beast mode and was trying to finish DC with every shot, which was exactly what Cormier expected. He used these Rumble's crazy overhands to get the fight to the clinch.

I truly believe that with different approach, Rumble could've beaten Cormier that night, as these crazy charges were exactly what he shouldn't have done.
