Can Ronda Rousey in 2013 Do What Brock Lesnar Failed At?

"The UFC has great athletes. St-Pierre, Silva, Velasquez, Jones, Benson Henderson, etc., are well-proven, fantastic athletes. The unfortunate reality is, however, that no one outside of the MMA world, and MMA beat writers know who these stars are."

Really, I'm not so sure about this. GSP has some big sponsorship deals and is Canada's biggest and most well-known athlete (arguably) while Silva also has some big sponsorship deals. Hyperbole, I think.

The UFC is in a much better position to feed Rousey padded fights than they were with Lesnar, and they're off to a good start with Camouche.

Brock was HW champion and made millions. What a failure.

Ronda Rousey is no where near the star that Brock was, and even if she does get good exposure the division is too weak to keep interest

Hell no. I have absolutely no desire to watch Ronda fight and I couldn't care less about her, in fact, she annoys me and I just try to ignore what she says.

In essence, she can do for MMA what Tiger Woods did for golf, what Billie Jean King did for tennis, and what Madonna did for pop music.

Some questions are too stupid to even dignify them with an answer.

He is not and t's not arguable. I can name at least 5 hockey players who are bigger and more well known. So many people still have no idea what MMA is let alone who GSP is. The sports beat writers give him his dues though, which is helping him, so in time he may catch up...if he doesn't retire first.

How did Lesnar fail? He got the UFC their biggest buy-rates until he had to retire.

Christ the amount of hate he gets is worse than the mindless Jones hate.

This is very true... My friends don't know any thing about MMA but only knows who Brock Lesnar and his career in UFC... and they know who Ronda is too lol.

Exactly. What a stupid way to look at it. The guy walked in to the sport at a very late time period, won a HW title and defended it. Helped the sport explode in popularity too.

How many times did dos Santos defend the HW title again?

Well, you sort fell in to that one. He is the most well-known athlete right now, because those guys aren't playing. Ha. There is no question GSP is one of the most famous athletes in Canada.

That is hilarious.

If she is half the draw Brock was, she should be considered a tremendous success.

This article made me feel dumber. If Rousey brought in 20% of PPV buys and attention that Lesnar brought in, that would be a success.

" Lesnar never deserved to be inside a UFC cage. Lesnar was a much better athlete than Kimbo Slice, but he wasn

I'm just gonna throw this quote from the article out there...

A year ago the biggest star in the history of mixed martial arts, the man who attracted the most Pay Per View buys in UFC history, the behemoth who convinced the mainstream press to pay attention to MMA, Brock Lesnar, retired from the UFC.

Who knew that the massive mastodon would be replaced as the biggest star in the sport by a girl?

Brock is the biggest PPV draw of all time in UFC history. He wasn't a failure. What fish wrap put this crap together.

Haha, well played.

He's still relatively unknown compared to Sydney Crosby.
