What was Bisping expecting here? Was it a straight left? Did Vitor do a CroCop on Bisping?

Vitor had executed several body kicks before that. I think Bisping was expecting something lower and was caught out.

No clue, but Bisping has a bad habit of just pushing off of dudes when pressured.
I mean right before the Hendo ko he's in the process of just pushing both arms out at Hendo for no real reason rather than covering up.

Might have expected a bodykick, though. Vitor had thrown a few prior to the headkick.

I noticed during the fight that Vitor repeatedly ended his combinations with left kicks to the body.

I wasn't quite sure why that was, I assumed that he had just found some hole in mikes retreat from striking engagements and he thought he could punish his midsection on the way out.

After seeing the result, I'm almost sure he simply went to the body enough times that Mike would be looking to block low, and then snapped his kick up high at the last second.

I might be completely wrong, I'm no kickboxing coach, but that's what it seemed like to me.

Vitor was landing body kicks. I am assuming Bisbings first reaction was to drop his hand to grab the kick.

Bisping was either trying to bob and weave and just picked the wrong time. Or he may have thought that kick was going to the body. Really it's impossible to say what Bisping was thinking.

The kicks from the first round did a lot to set up the one in the second round. Vitor looked WAY faster than Bisping too. That right there might be the real factor.

Disclaimer* Not a striking expert. Taking my advice will get you struck.

It is fairly standard Bisping-esque defense. He usually throws up his arms to counter a punch where he pretty much flails his arms forward instead of bringing his hands up to his face to defend.

Every time he gets hit it's because of this.

Bisping's right hand comes outwards, so that mean he was trying to parry a punch?

I think that there was actually at least quite a bit of Pettis Lauzon in it - Bisping really looks like he had expected the kick to go much lower.

Its incredible how devastating the results of such a split second mistake are in MMA.

In the gif you can clearly see his right hand make a move forward just before the kick landed, it's really poor striking defense and it is something that has hunted him through his entire career but was first taken advantage of by Hendo.

Check out the gif where he does the exact same thing with his right hand to block the right handed punch instead of the left high kick. Also the left hand he kinda throws out there isn't a punch but it is the same exact poor defensive technique where he tries to block the punch by throwing his arms forward.

Same reason Gonzaga KOed Crocop. If you actually watch the fight, Gonzaga kept going for the kick to the body before setting up the head kick that chopped Crocop's block off. Vitor did the same thing.

I got two years muay thai experience.

This is what happened. He got kicked really hard in the head.

Vitors kick worked because when a kick from a veteran striker makes contact with a mans face. It hurts.

Not sure as I haven't talk to Mike but I'm guessing Bisping was expecting "something else". And the reason why it worked was that it cleanly connected with Mike's head. That's my expert analysis anyway.

Not really, he might have been apprehensive because of the kick but for someone to eat a highkick after low/bodykicks there should've been more damage done so that the opponent will try to block with his hands instead of with the legs only.

This is just poor instincts which have never seem to have been ironed out by his trainers.

I never noticed that before. You called it though. He tried that right before he got H bombed. That push off is one of his main defenses and the good strikers have made him pay for it.

lol ... Damn, it looks like the same thing. So he was probably expecting a punch then

Looking at the Vitor gif again, it looks like for a split second he's gonna throw the left hand, so Bisping is probably trying to parry it.

I am certainly no expert but I think it was a mix of things. 1) Vitor threw a head kick in the first round and it slightly connected so he thought that it could be there if he tried again 2) Bisping was not looking for kicks as Vitor is usually just a boxer/BJJ guy. 3) Vitor used several body kicks in the fight and Bisping thought he kick would be lower. 4) Bisping was dropping his hands when he threw his jab.

The combination of Vitor figuring Bisping out, and Bisping not being prepared for a head kick lead to the awesome finish.

I'm no expert (to say the least) but right before the kick it looked like vitor feinted a straight left or at least it seemed like he was going to throw that instead of the kick (to me at least) and Bisping reacted to that. At first i thought he was expecting a body kick but when I watched it again it looked like was trying to parry and sway away from a punch
