Yes, why can't he? Plenty of fighters have had to figure out their mental game to come back. There was a time when people thought vitors career was over when his sister got kidnapped and murdered. People assumed he'd never be the same when he was fighting tenative. Same with lawler, once he went to strikeforce and up to MW people figured he'd middle around there for a while then fade into obscurity never reaching the hype he once had as a young mfs prospect. Not all guys get past their roadblocks, but it's definitely doable considering he's not some aging relic.

It was bizarre, I thought for sure he was waiting to save his gas and would unload in round 3, but that never happened.

Its hard to say how much of it was gassing against Stipe, how much was the mental pressure on him after how big the fight was hyped, or how shook he was standing across from Black Beast having that right hand cocked.

They were both tentative to do anything after the fight was hyped as a first round ko, so I guess UFC Marketing TKOed both of them via timidity.
