Lets cut right to it Mighty Mouse has got to be the worst PPV Main Event draw ever. The guy is talented but nobody wants to pay $50-60 to watch him headline. UFC174-115,000 buys Probably the lowest buy rate in the modern day UFC. And the main event card was pretty decent with some big names. Rory-T Wood, Schaub-AA, Bader-Cavalcante, Jimmo-OSP. UFC178-205,000 buys Conor McGregor sold this PPV over 200,000 along with Cerrone-Alvarez. UFC186-125,000 buys Bisping-Dollaway Rampage-Fabio sold this events PPV's. I dont think Mighty Mouse should be able to Headline a PPV, let him headline a Fight Night card or maybe co-main event a PPV. UFC 191 is going to be terrible too probably well under 200,000 unless everyone buys this to see Rumble and VanZant's sexy A$$. They better hope they can get Mir-AA on this card too. That would probably help out a lot. Thoughts?
His "flops" are only slightly worse than Aldo's PPV numbers. It's only a story because the media made it into one. The UFC should be more concerned about their HW champ only doing 300k buys.
They were still only a month removed from a PPV that did 4M buys. Plus it was in a foreign country, so it didn't get the media play it would have in America. A lot of excuses, I guess, but it's still true. I don't think it's cause for concern. Same with Mighty Mouse top, tbh.
No. Here's MM vs. Joanna Champion, who's supposed to be the weakest in terms of drawing power, so much so that she's on fight pass: https://www.google.ca/trends/explore#q=/m/0bh7hgd, /m/011lf6b3&cmpt=q&tz=Etc/GMT+7 With 1 year in the UFC, less than 6 months as champion, no fabricated trash talk, Joanna Champion has managed to become far more popular than MM. This is how little people care about MM.
I feel compelled to ask this, for some reason. I don't normally get involved in financial squawking here. What amount of buys is considered successful?
When Joanna gets on a PPV card im sure she will be the Co-Main Event behind the LW, WW, MW ect ect Headline.
Aldo wasin't drawing at all, now with Conner he'll have a 1 million buyrate. Mighty Mouse needs a feud. To bad the McCall fight got messed up.
Who should be worse? He's the flyweight champ defending his obscure championship against complete unknowns. It's not like he's bombing as a LW-HW champ.
Joanna Champion went from a complete unknown to generating significantly more Google search volume than him at a lower weight class in less than 1 year, and she wasn't even on TUF.
Mighty mice cards are so crappy, I'm not sure his family or friends would watch the card if it weren't free for them.
MM's pay-per-view title defenses: -Bagautinov (on PEDs) -Cariaso (CARIASO?) -Horiguchi MM's three Fox title defenses: -Dodson -Moraga -Benavidez The latter three would all handle the first three and I'd bet those fights (Dodson and Benavidez in particular) generate much more interest.
woah Google searches. That's right up there with Twitter followers in terms of significance (which DJ has more of). Joanna is also one of the only decent Polish fighters in MMA. Lemme know when those searches translate into PPV buys. Then we'll have something to compare.
Which is why I feel 191 might do okay. This isn't fucking Chris Cariaso or Kyoji Horiguchi. It's not suddenly a guaranteed success, but it's a different dynamic.
While I don't really disagree with your main idea, it's not like JJ is gonna draw worse than MM. MM draws absolute rock bottom low PPV buys.
His numbers will improve as soon as people stop parroting the sentiments of Ian McCall and John Dodson, imo. He will keep winning, and people will gradually wake up and realize that McCall and Dodson are full of shit, and have had to resort to claiming that the division is doomed if 'boring MM' continues to be champion...simply because they can't comment on how exactly either of them expects to beat him.
