SCOTUS isn't down with it (even Brett and Amy think it makes no sense), but he's stated pretty clearly he wants to end birthright citizenship.

It would open up a legal shit show, especially if citizenship could be stripped retroactively.

The person you replied to provided an example of how that could affect him if the policy were taken to extremes.

ending birthright citizenship would not be retroactive. impossible and impractical to implement. only going forward.

Hospitals needing to check with INS before issuing a birth certificate just makes for stateless undocumented babies.

I dont agree with him as I think it would be far easier. If you're here legally under some visa program, then having the child is no issue but you can no longer have the safety of having an anchor baby to keep you here after the visa expires. Traveling while pregnant will be more difficult into the states but its pretty common for women expecting sooner than later needing doctors notes allowing them to fly. My wife was 6 months pregnant twice and we needed permission to fly.

I believe I read once that only 18% of the countries in the world offer birthright citizenship. America being one of them.

I remember my wife and I were travelling in Spain and Italy when she was 8 months pregnant. If she had dropped at either place we certainly wouldn't have expected them to bestow citizenship on him or us. That's just fucking stupid.

they've been doing it forever in boxing, I wouldn't know the particulars but it's nothing new, come here, go back, most of the elite ones stay in their home country or at the most, maybe buy a home here for a while. Chavez didn't even really try to learn english, that's how much he gave a fuck for crossing over and assimilating.

even if it's clear it's just temporary? Duran is another who never had respect for america, in fact, he was usually surly and did like chavez. Word was when he saw "the golden boy" leonard and all the money he was making not only his hatred of the rich and american came out but also a hatred for Ray was born and his man said he looked meaner than he'd ever seen him before or since.
 
There have been plenty of examples of fighters unable to compete in America because of visa issues... how is this any different?
 
Were they sneaking across the border in the first place? I'm sure their managers can get a visa for them. Besides, Trump is a fight fan. I'm sure he would be willing to expedite legal entry for fighters. Just don't get on a terror watch list or be best buds with someone who is.

I probably shouldn’t say a lot but I train somebody who is here under asylum escaping and evil dictator who runs the country of origin.

One hell of a fighter who is a few fights out from a spot on the contender series or a flat out UFC fight. He escaped persecution and is awaiting his immigration trial while in the meantime has no problem booking fights.
