Most of Sherdog created their own top ten rankings back in the day. You'd find them in signatures a lot. I never put mine in my signature, or even posted my own rankings before. But here I am, 10 years later, posting my top 10 fighters from each division, plus top 5 pound for pound in 2008... I think I used to update them regularly, fight by fight, but this must've been where I stopped doing rankings completely. I noticed the absence of Dan Henderson, and I remember it was because he had just lost to Silva after finally making the transition from PRIDE middleweight (209 lbs)/Light Heavyweight to UFC middleweight. So I couldn't properly rank him anywhere.

Some of the names on here kinda blow my mind looking back on it. A few of them I probably would've never remembered even existed. Vitor Ribeiro? Mitsuhiro Ishida? Kazuo Misaki? Haven't thought about those names in years.

You know that shit is old when Arona is ranked and not banging waves and surfing hot bitches.

Just looked up his fight record and he only had one more fight after these rankings. A UD win over Marvin Eastman.

When LHW was Murder's Row. Golden Age of MMA?

That was a good year to be an MMA fan.

Wanted to find a small critique to shit post... but it's all a blur... I'll just stick with this

A legit critique would be the placement of Karo Parisyan at #4, tbh.

BJ Penn over GSP was legit, as Penn was still on a tear and GSP wasn't even a year removed from getting blitzed by Serra.

Good trip back to memory lane. No Miguel Angel Torres?

Fair enough. Just saying, he was on a lot of p4p lists back then

Yeah, but I was strictly doing Pride/UFC. He was a bantamweight in the WEC and I just never did those divisions. Talent was too scarce at the time. I just didn't have the energy to keep up. Aldo wasn't even a prominent featherweight yet. It was all Urijah Faber until Mike Brown beat him. Torres only had one or two fights in the WEC at the time in a division ruled by Chase Beebe. lol

That's pretty cool.

10 years ago I predicted who would be champs in 2018

Heres my list

HW: Stipe Miocic
LHW: Jon Jones
MW: Robert Whittaker
WW: Tyron Woodley
LW: Khabib Nurmogomedov

Torres ended his career at something like 45-5. Age and wear and tear got him before the spotlight did.

I ended up feeling bad for him after a while. He immediately lost again brutally to Benavidez, Demetrious Johnson beat him. He got clean KO'd by Michael McDonald. I think that huge streak ending got to his head pretty good, coupled with the fact that he lost to some excellent competition, for sure.

I lurked here for some time, finally decided to join in the middle of the "Year of the Upset".

A legit critique is Shogun n°5 p4p while n°2 LHW. You cannot be better than a guy p4p and not in your own weight class.

That doesn't make sense, you're fired.

Not a Matt Lindland fan back in the day? Didn't Sherdog have him in like the top 5 MW back in 2008? Plenty of people signaled him out as the one to dethrone Silva, didn't they?

Not big on the Sokoudjou hype either.

Cool post btw.
