I'm getting obsessed with this Joe Calzaghe versus Hopkins fight.

Mr Warren and other top dudes in the business have been saying that Calzaghe is one of the last boxers of the "old school". I've heard that a few times about Joe. What exactly do they mean by that ? They are also insinuating that this will give him an advantage.

Please educate me on this boxing lingo that Mr Warren presumes we all understand:icon_neut:icon_chee

Calzaghe is a slick boxer with very fast hands and underrated power....also has great footwork and gives his opponent several different angles throughout the fight.

he's a very difficult boxer to face....with the speed, angles, power, boxing skills.

and the thing i like the most is that he's an exciting fighter. there are boring boxers like Mayweather who have great skill but don't come to actually fight....there are exciting fighters like Ricky Hatton who don't use much 'boxing skill'....then there are fighters like Calzaghe who have it all.

watch how Calzaghe easily walked through Jeff Lacy (a fight people said Joe would get manhandled in). the fight is divided into parts. just keep watching them.

Bhop is the one who is old school. He has mastered his craft to perfection. Everything he does in the ring is technically perfect.
Even still, Calzaghe's speed will give Bernard real trouble but Bernard is the best in the world at making adjustments in a fight(along with PBF) so he will figure something out to beat Joe imo.

both guys are arguably throwbakc fighters but hopkins has had a few fights where he plays the hit and run game.

Ok from reading these posts it seems that old school means someone that has really mastered the art of boxing and is not just a brutal puncher like Tyson or Haye. I conclude it means a fighter that has ALL the skill of boxing and not just excels at some or one of them.

Then I guess they are BOTH old school. Wow I hope the fight is not going to be a disappointment as I am so looking forward to it. I've never been this interested in a fight since the dark destroyer Nigel Ben and the English gentleman Chris Eubank were fighting!
