I know before the fight, he had a god chin imparted to him by the gods of the "fighting Irish" and was incapable of being hurt. Now that we are back to reality, we can discuss how his chin is and whether or not it matches his fighting style.

I'm not one of those guys who thinks chin and power is everything. I know that the right shot can hurt anyone. That being said, there are some guys with freakish chins who can notoriously take more damage and other guys who can't and have a tendency to get rocked by clean shots.

We haven't seen Conor fight many UFC lightweights. So far, he got rocked clean by Diaz and contrary to popular belief, it was not because he was tired (he may have been tired but he was no where near fully gassed). Diaz is far from a heavy hitter. We saw him tee off on Cerrone for three rounds and land a significant strike record without hurting him. In his last fight, he landed everything but the kitchen sink on Michael Johnson and couldn't really hurt him either.

He is still a great striker. However, against the best strikers of the division, there is a chance he will have to eat shots to land them. How would Conor's chin hold up against guys like:

  • Tony Ferguson
  • Rafael Dos Anjos
  • Donald Cerrone
  • Michael Johnson
  • Edson Barboza
  • Anthony Pettis
What do you say?

If he is energy efficient, he would KO them before they can even hit him. No need for that thread, too obvious.

Forgot about the LWs The Korean Zombie will finish him at Featherweight

Not very well. We just saw him get hurt by a light weight who mostly slapped him instead of punching him. Diaz's chin is very good though. That was a factor. Conor beats nobody on that list however.

He would get knocked out like this at LW

Diaz landed a really clean shot on him but isn't exactly a power puncher. I bet a solid straight left from RDA puts Conor out cold

His chin holds up against Pettis, Cerrone and maybe Ferguson but gets cracked by all the others.

  • Tony Ferguson : probably fine, he's more likely to get subbed
  • Rafael Dos Anjos : Again, it would likely hold up in a excahange but a ko isnt too unlikely
  • Donald Cerrone : if we're counting feet he dies if one lands
  • Michael Johnson : he'd get rocked
  • Edson Barboza : same thing as cerrone
  • Anthony Pettis : same thing as cerrone
What do you say?
In terms of punching, conor is probably better at it than 4/6 listed. His defense is probably worse than barboza's though.

Conor has a chin of granite. you can't judge a person's chin after he has been gassed. mendes hits 5x harder than nate does and his punches couldn't even faze conor. When conor isn't gassed, he can take a great shot. But when gassed, he can't.

Say what you want but that left hand Nate hit Conor with would have dropped any other lightweight. His Chin is solid. People can say what they want but that shot was clean as hell. Shit RDA would have taken a nap from that

Getting tagged when tired = chin gone?

I think it's too soon to tell. To me, a fighter with a declining chin is the one who gets dropped in every fight, and then eventually starts getting flash ko'd by punches that didn't bother him in the past. That didn't really happen to McGregor here, or in any of his previous fights.

By your logic, Nate's chin got destroyed after the Thomson fight. You see that doesn't really make much sense right?

I don't think Conor's chin is nearly as bad as people say. Nate simply hits a lot harder than most give him credit for.

That being said, I think there are a lot of guys at 155 that would turn his lights out. Not even necessarily ranked fighters, I believe a guy like Mairbek Taisumov sends him to the deck with a blanket and a bedtime story.

What an embarrassingly bad post for someone who's been watching mma as long as you have. My goodness :(

Most of the damage Mendes inflicted on Conor was from elbows from full-guard
If Mendes landed a clean over-hand right, who knows? He might have rocked Conor

New EnergyStar certified Connor will be Welterweight/Lightweight/Featherweight champion of the world.

Also heard that he is working towards his LEED accreditation - if so, heavweights better look out.
